Well, I'm Done!

Went over my wish and got most of it done:
Don’t get too crazy with ideas that can’t be self made
Aluminum spring seat frame
Had the wheels laced up
Use a classy frame to start
War Era CWC Pilot (with curved up drop outs)
Keep it fresh with new twists on old themes
Really Big and skinny tire combo
Bare metal bike with a gun bluing
24" Road bike fork
Wheels make a big difference
Chukkers worked out
Make something I like and not worry about the contest
It's a fun bike!
Shiny bikes turn heads
Frame Metal shines through gun bluing and clear coat

So I started with a picture on Ebay

And ended up with this:

Took it on a ~12 mile shake down, perfect weather, no problems  :D
Stopped off at the Longfellow Community Garden (a favorite spot)
IMG_7105IV.jpg

Headed down Mississippi River Road
IMG_7109II.jpg

Went down to Mississippi River Lock and Dam #1
IMG_7110II.jpg

Then back up the steep hill 1st gear and out of the saddle
Shot on on the top of the Ford bridge from the last picture
IMG_7115II.jpg

Off to Minnehaha Falls
IMG_7119II.jpg

Took the creek bike path to Lake Hiawatha bridge
IMG_7122II.jpg

Over to Lake Nokomis Main Beach,
IMG_7126II.jpg

On the trip around Nokomis, I stopped by the dock that I shot the Spaceliner
It was even more nerve wracking
IMG_7127II.jpg

Back over to Lake Hiawatha and then the beach
IMG_7131II.jpg

Took it mellow and headed home

The build was really fun with some "life interruptions" along the way
Spent way too much time on the frame but it now seems worth it
It came in at 31lbs so not too bad. Nice having 3 gears, it's fast! :D
Going for another ride tomorrow so more pics to post

I'd like to thank everybody who checked out the build thread
And big props for the supporters and jokers :D
Special thanks to Steve (Rat Rod) for having such a fun forum!
Had a ton of fun watching all the incredibly creative and talented people and their bikes

Thanks for looking
Steve

Re: Jacked Up Pilot

Love that Big -N-Little tire combo. Hottness!

Re: Jacked Up Pilot

bike was already smokin`, but those wheels really amplified the big-n-littles look! 8) all business,no frills...gotta love it. :D

Re: Jacked Up Pilot

Looks great, and I know that you will always build a rider, and that is important to me, but so are grips! :x

Re: Jacked Up Pilot

Wicked ride dude!!!!
Love it!!
congRATs!

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, Ride pics 2

Thanks a lot Guys! :D
Glad you like the stance, ridablity, and toughness

Yeah, no grips.. Have some silver handle bar wrap but the pattern wasn't right
Mostly use the handle bars to steer with my weight on the saddle and the road bike fork
Can always use my biking gloves

So I went out again Sat night to get some evening light (~ 5 miles)
Longfellow Park

Lake street bridge

Perfect weather for a ride and pics

Another sunny day today for riding, pics, and DQ with my FIL
I'll keep you posted

Thanks
Steve

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, Ride 3, pic heavy

Thanks guys!! You're too kind :D :D
Grandpa of muscle bikes, I like it Mr Kool.

Ride 3 today, did about ~20 miles and no problems :D
Lots of stops for pics, I went a little crazy too

Set off to the Greenway (Rails to Trails) toward Uptown Mpls
The Sabo bike bridge is very cool for a dramatic start
IMG_7143III.jpg

Straight shot with lots of happy Greenway bike traffic
IMG_7144II.jpg

Made first destination, Uptown Arts Festival, cool stuff
IMG_7145II.jpg

Took this one for Youthgeye, wore my cycle gloves today but no padded shorts
IMG_7150II.jpg

Right around the corner, One of the "Life Occurrences" that got in the way
Trying to finally fix up and sell my condo (upper left) after living in martial bliss at my wife's house
Time for me to thank my wife for all her support and style advice: Thanks Honey!
IMG_7149II.jpg

Just around another corner is Lake of the Isles
People having fun and the little kid just caught a fish :D
IMG_7154II.jpg

Did some 3rd-gear, out-of-the-saddle blasts and this thing is fast! :D
The back tire doesn't coast too good but I'm a slave for style
Another Downtown Mpls shot from Lake of the Isles bridge
IMG_7156II.jpg

Off to my favorite, Lake Calhoun
IMG_7163II.jpg

It's like a big party at Lake Calhoun Pavilion on days like this :D
IMG_7164II.jpg

Stopped off at Lake Calhoun Thomas Beach for a last year repeat shot
IMG_7169II.jpg

Downtown Mpls framed at Calhoun
IMG_7170II.jpg

Hammered around with a few more 3rd gear stints, ended up at Calhoun's East Beach
IMG_7178II.jpg

Short jaunt to Calhoun Cycle for a photo op and good conversation
Got my front tire and pedals there (no sponsorship   )
IMG_7179II.jpg

Stopped for some iced coffee to help me home
IMG_7182II.jpg

Stopped in at Sunrise Cyclery, Guys loved it, good detailed conversation, Awesome!
Thanked them for the cheap parts along the way; stem and shifter (again no sponsorship  )
Got the comment "You need a kick stand"; "No thank you"
IMG_7183II.jpg

Headed back on the Greenway with the wind at my back
Was able to get some 3rd-gear, in-saddle blasts :D
IMG_7184II.jpg

Stopped in at the Hub, kinda ignored by the staff (the cool mech wasn't working)
Got the lightweight Sugino Crank set for $10 (unfortunately no bargaining there)
Had a great conversation with a guy in his sixties and his very cool high tech road bike he built
Like the Pilot and he said that a group of older guys were building old bikes :D :D
His sounded very cool, so I suggested checking out RatRodBikes and he would find other fans
IMG_7188II.jpg

Then a short jaunt to get home
IMG_7189II.jpg

Jacked Up Pilot is very fun and got quite a few comments:
"Is that a Classic?"
"I Love that big fat tire"
"Why the big rear tire?"; "Because it's cool"

Switched up the riding positions, going into the head wind
2nd-gear, Stand up: 2nd-gear, In-saddle: First-gear, In-saddle; Please repeat
Decided to be safe and iced my knees once home

Thanks for Looking
Steve
