I have been wanting to build a cruiser based road bike after seeing this picture
(sadly it was a quite a while ago that I saw this so I cant give credit to whoever did it)
schwinn-large02_zpsado7ktkj.jpg

yes I know this only meets one of the 3 criteria for the rules but I have an idea or two that will make it legal for the MBBO

I will be using this camelback style frame that turned out to be a huffy mad man bicycle without the plastic tank
This will be an ideal candidate for a road based bike because for a steel frame it actually is fairly light
It weighed close to 7lbs
plus the look of this frame reminded me of the Huffy All-Pro muscle bike

What it once looked like (also this is the same frame as the huffy made coca-cola bikes)

So to start with I added a 3 piece crank BB adaptor

And I have this aluminum fork
I originally bought it for another project but it turned out to be to narrow at the top
and it wouldn't fit a 26 x 1.75 tire
but I plan on running a much skinnier front tire on this build

I believe it is from a Schwinn Prologue road bike

Well with work calling me to cover extra shifts progress has been very slow
but I finally had a chance to get something accomplished

I was able to at last pull these crank and pedals off a cycle truck I acquired a while ago (seems to me a bit odd to for someone to have these on that type of bike)

Aluminum Takagi forged Ultra Dyno cranks
and Surefoot II pedals
The chain ring is steel and has 52 teeth (I could have used aluminum but I wanted something more durable)

The cranks where a real bear to get off the cycle truck
and some thread damage was the result
so I had to find a way to re thread the crank so I could use a crank puller on them again if needed
I ended up having to use part of the puller and clamp it in with a vise
and slowly re thread it

Ok so i have a little more progress to show
not quite as much as I had planed between work and trying to find some of the important parts for this build

One major bummer was I couldn't find the type of seat I originally wanted to use
so I will be using this mesinger wing seat
IMG_3936_zpsitnzdn87.jpg

using this type of seat will change the handle bars I will end up using

The other part I have been working on
is the truss rods for the fork
IMG_3938_zpspnxsjzvg.jpg

they are store bought aluminum tubes that I am modifying for my use
IMG_3939_zpszwhwpyeq.jpg

here you can see where i crimped the tube to attach to the aluminum bracket (probably from a girls silver king bike)

well i ran into too many small problems to finish in time for the voting
but I will at least offer up this mock up pic to give you an idea of what it will look like once finished

currently cant put air in
it was the tube that was one of the biggest problems
(among many) that prevented me from entering

I had another idea that would to fit the bike into the rules without a banana seat (not shown in the mock up)
but I will save that idea for a future gravity bike build
