This is my first RRB build-off entry. It's an old Columbia springer bicycle I got off a guy who's dad just passed away. It was in his barn for 20 years or so when his dad was alive. Before his Dad had the bike, the bike was his father's bike and he rode it back and forth to work in a Detroit factory in the 50's. I'm really excited to get a chance to give this bike a new life again and do something like this. I've built a ton of bikes before and just love these old Columbia's. There's a lot of work to get to look good but it'll get there in time. Hope you all enjoy the progress of this old beauty.

The original paint looks great!
The year of manufacture can be obtained from the serial number.

I love how this cleaned up with the OA!
Welcome to the fun brother! Glad you could join us!

Great history on the bike, nice to see so many newcomers in this years build-off. Welcome.

Thanks buddy. The color really popped out after a lot of the rust went away. That bath worked wonders. Gonna give it a clear coat next.

Looking good so far! You wouldn't happen to have a thread on how to do oxalic acid baths, would you? I've been meaning to try it myself, but I want to make sure I know what to do before I start.
I actually watched a few YouTube videos on it and learned how to do it. I ordered the OA from Walmart.com and got a kiddie pool at Menards. Just fill the pool with water and OA and bike parts. Wait 2 days and the wash off everything after. I sprayed wd-40 in the frame after and drained it.

Ok, cool. Care to share which videos you watched?

Today I got the frame and chaingaurd cleaned and sprayed with clear coat Satin finish. Just 2 light coats to seal in all the original paint and patina.
