PreWar Schwinn?

Does any one have some insight on this bike I just got at the 127 yard sale...

looks like a Schwinn but I am not 100%

The front hub is a black new departure , and the rear is a model D. I pulled the crank but no dates. I could not find a SS # anywhere on the frame. Tomorrow I am going to try to see if the fork has any dates , but I doubt I can free it up.

It looks like it could very well be a Schwinn. I think that's a prewar C model. Could be a BC97. I like that frame style with the straight down tube. According to my catalogs, the last year they made that frame in 26" was 1939. Gary

It does seem to be a Schwinn. The seat isn't correct. If you happen to be able to free the stem and pull it, it could be dated as well. It could be stamped AS or might just have the last two digits of the year. The fork probably doesn't have a date stamp, but who knows.

The stem was stamped W 20 on one side and circle W -5- on the other :?:
