Ed your builds almost always get one of my votes! When I do build I do it for myself or the grandkid I’m building it for. You always come up with some great ideas I like to borrow (steal)!

Can’t get my mind wrapped around the build-off this year. May have spent my creativity last year. I’ve been spending my time on gardening and landscape rejuvenation. We had severe freezing weather in February and March. We lost a lot of plants that we’d had for years.
Appears to be fewer builds this year and I find myself on the slacker page. My build is simple, clean and service wheelset, maybe paint rims. Think my plan is to media blast and powder-coat frame, fork and chainguard. Truss rods to get finish that matches rims, cleanup drive train parts. I have a stem, bars, grips, pedals, tires and a couple of tanks. I’ll probably source a new saddle. If I can get myself interested, it’s pretty cut and dried, nothing fancy, no doodads, just my interpretation of a rat rod in lieu of a custom/kustom. Silver Vein might even look like a stock bike.

Sincere apologies, I was attempting to be positive. I genuinely respect your builds, was trying to encourage participation. The message I was trying to convey was that not every build needs to be as extensive your tractor trike from last year.
I’ve been working on our landscape, gardens and pond in lieu of the bike. Also doing some family genealogy research back to 1620 and initial migration from England to Massachusetts.
I did drop some parts off at LORAC for powder coating today, I guess I’ll start on the mechanicals next week.

Genealogy is a cool thing! I unfortunately can't trace my family back beyond 1700 because somewhere around that time the community building from the village NY family comes from burnt down with all family registers in it...
Back at it…I stripped three layers paint off the truss rods of unknown origin.

What are you planning for the header wrap? I've used that stuff extensively and can offer assistance if you want some tips

Primer on truss rods. End bolts are seized in rods so they get to stay for now.
I thought I remembered someone doing something cool with header wrap many years ago, but I can't find it.
Kind of in a holding pattern till I get the frame and parts back.
HVAC heat pump quit last Friday…3 days ago. Our regular service company is tied up until Thursday. Tuesday Pm was the soonest I could get someone out. Not having fun, except as a kid growing up we didn’t have AC until I was in HS…so been there done that.
I have my chain soaking. I could be servicing and cleaning up the wheels. I’m thinking I’ll mask off the spokes and do a rim paint with truss rods matching. I’ve sketched out some ideas incorporating the header wrap. Hadn’t really planned to add doodads to this build but that might get revised.

Outside temps went from high 90’s to100 last week to 61 this morning. Replacement HVAC system 3 weeks out. We installed a temporary window unit in our master Bedroom and our HVAC company loaned us a portable indoor unit to tide us over.
Anyway with the cooler temperature and my need to list caught up I got back on the lichen build. I dismounted the tires and cleaned up the wheelset, bottom bracket parts, crank/chain ring and headset parts. The frame is still at powder-coater. I’m still undecided on the wheel color, waiting to see how the frame color works with the tank.

Finished cleaning the skip-tooth chain this morning after soaking in sealed bag of WD-40 and degreaser for around a week.

Front wheel experiment, the rim had been previously painted silver over original white. I scuffed it up with bronze wool and cleaned with lacquer thinner. I masked the spoke nipples and mounted wheel in an old fork clamped in a Workmate table. Axle was a screwdriver. I sprayed a light coat manually to check coverage. Then I spun wheel while spraying in one location, I did both sides of wheel this way.
I used Stainless Steel Rust-Oleum high performance enamel.
I’ll probably have some overspray to clean off…we’ll see later.

The frame is still at powder-coater. The paint I used for front wheel and truss rods was a leftover can from a previous project. I didn’t have enough to do rear wheel so I went to HD for another can. They didn’t have the SS color. So I tried an Ace Hardware, a True Value Hardware, an Auto-Zone and finally a Menards. Five places to find a can of paint…and the internet sites were of no help in finding stock, including Rust-Oleum.
Anyway I picked up a couple of cans…rear wheel to follow.

Last year I had to to run all over different stores to get my paints. It was a pain in the rear.
