I finished cleanup and prep of rear wheel today. I masked the spoke nipples for painting and after it stopped raining the sun came out. I managed to get the SS paint on the rim. I removed the nipple masking from the front wheel, a very tedious task. With all the bikes I’ve done I’ve never painted an assembled wheel rim. I’ve always just cleaned the wheels, respoked them or used new wheel sets.
I’m scheduled to pickup the frame and fork on Friday. Then I can make some noticeable progress. Have a few tire options waiting for mock-up tests.

A few tire options

I mounted one tire on front wheel and greased up bearings and cones, installed the axle. Jury is out until I pick up the frame for mock-up.

Rear wheel rim is painted, now the tedious task of removing masking tape. Cassie in the grass…getting rays, after a week of clouds and rain.

The Silver Vein parts are back…after mowing I’m spent. The frame will keep for a while.

Just saw the post about header wrap. If you want something that is closer to the right size to fit truss rods, you might want to check out Techflex. You'll have to hunt through their distributors a bit depending on what you're looking for as, annoyingly, they don't all carry the full range of products. I just found this place myself or I'd have been wrapping brake cables in stainless steel for a while, but at least I found it now to wrap wires cleanly and in matching color for Plum Crazy.

Well the frame is unwrapped…found a couple of bubbles and some flash that needed trimming, not the usual quality that I’ve come to expect from the powdercoater.
The overall finish looks good.

So I’ve started the assembly and mock-up process. I added new bottom bracket bearing cups and reused the headset components. The cream wall brown tires were my original idea but with the red of the tank I’m thinking the red or black tires will work best.

I tried a Nitto road stem with the Columbia bars but changed it out to a JC Higgins type stem. The frame is AMF Roadmaster, wheelset JC Higgins, drivetrain girls JC Higgins, bars from Columbia bike. The bars may yet change, we’re still fluid but basic simple.

Wow, this is quite the astonishing effect. It kind of reminds me of some reptile... Or butterfly wings... (... lol) or a fish... I can't quite place it.
Is this the so called "hammer paint"?
It is a similar effect of hammered paint but a little more extreme. The bike originally had lichens, the coating company had gold vein, copper vein and silver vein finishes, no green tones. I plan on using the Roadmaster tank, and figured the silver and black tones would go better with the red and silver of the tank. Thanks for checking in.

Man, I love how that paint came out. Killer effect!

That finish is really cool! The texture and 'veiny' look with the silver and black is very unique. The clay /red tires are the perfect compliment.

RaT oN!

Well I mounted up the back wheel with the red tire and added the tank and headbadge. The first shots show the Columbia cross-braced bars…they seemed out of proportion with the rest of the bike. I then changed them out for a smaller mild mustache bar set. I experimented with them up and down.

I need to repaint the truss rods as the got scuffed up pretty good from getting moved around several times.

Roller on the ground…need to clean up the stem. I have some grips, need to dig them out. I repainted the truss rods, not completely sold on their look. I was looking through my bike hoard for a donor saddle, don’t really want to spend dollars on a new/used one. Drivetrain will remain 1” pitch at this point.

I like the new photo op location. Recent addition? The blocks and 4x4's look unscathed and that shed is shiny!

Stick built shed from last October…freed up half of garage. No driveway shade though, hot place to work.
