Re: >>> SINGLESPEED HOTROD >>>

Some more inspiration for my build. (sorry for the re-post )

I may be dedicating this build to these 1957 Dutch BMX pioneers.
I'm thinking bobbed fenders and some sort of racingnumbers/lettering...

Re: >>> SINGLESPEED HOTROD >>>

Thanks guys.

Today Holland was the hottest place in Europe!!! Man, summer came early this year...

Still enjoying the bike how she sit at the moment. I think I can get used to that footbrake... But I'm for sure getting used to the noiseless coasting. 8) I can really sneak up to people from behind and do a quick blitz-overtake  When I pedal, the derailerwheel does make a subtle rattling noice, but it still is very quiet. Reminded me of The Blue Thunder's 'Wisper-mode'... I've also noticed some people checking out my bike. And there was this one guy that shouted: 'Mooie fiets!' (=Nice bike!)

gazelle_15_a.jpg

^ I put the pedals that were on my Cartboardtracker on this build and bought new ones to replace the others. Maybe I do some fabricating and make some custom pedals. If I've got some time soon....

^ As I said, the chain popped off of the chaintnesioner-thinghy I slapped on so I made a quick guard, just by bending another clamp over the one that was already on the chainstay. Hope the pics are clear enough to see how exactly: The inside clamp loops around the chainstay and holds the derailerwheel on one side. The outer clamp loops around the chainstay and holds the wheel on both sides. Making it rigid enough to brake.

I love the transformation from dumpster fodder to rat chic. When it's done allow me to repost.

Make sure you know ow many links you need before you order a half link. They are made short for bmx. I had to order another for my hustler build.

Half link. Being a half link... doesn't that make me need two times as much links as a normal chain...? I have some bmx specialist stores around town so I can check with them first. I'm not much of an internetbuyer. I want to go to the store and always see and touch what I want to buy...

Repost: Ofcourse. I'd be honoured if you do so... Just let me know.

You'll need to use 1/8" chain, however. Your LBS should have one.

:| One is enough to fine tune chain length for minimal slack.

haha, I know deorman. But I think I'd go with the whole halflink chain. Because I like the serious look of it.
But I still hope there isn't going to be a problem in the end with the slack...

^ I wanted to show the difference in texture of a used (left) and a new-ish seat (right).

^ My bike on a regular Dutch rainy day.

Today the weather was back to normal in Holland. After some really good summerdays it has begun raining again. Ofcourse I got wet running the bike without fenders. The bike rides good. 8) I even did an emergency-brake, and it stopped! The first bike in years that has a brake that actully brakes in the rain... I scared some pedestrians with my skidding resulting in a nice girl shouting 'loon' at me.

gazelle_16_e.jpg

^ Not that I got soaked or anything, just some parts of my body did. Guess which... :|

gazelle_16_a.jpg

^ I always look for excuses to ride my bike. Even when I'm really busy with my work. Today I had to make some measurements for two huge garagedoor-murals. After I took the measurments I just had to put my bike in front of it. This way my partner in crime can see just how big these doors are...

gazelle_16_b.jpg

^ sorry for this really bad pic but I wanted to show my Fat Shiny Franks... I don't have to worry about the lack of visibility at night... Though I hate those anti-vintage reflection stripes...

^ When I arrived at my parents house I noticed my sister came to visit in her beetle. (Just trying to score some votes with a cool car used as background for my build... )

Hope to do some real work on my bike soon...
Have lot's of plans, but I'm really lacking time at the moment.

HEY NO FAIR! I'm going to have to go meet my neighbor with the rusty old 50s-60s cars and shoot some pictures. I need to meet them anyway (I'm new to the neighborhood), but my bike is still in pieces.

Re: >>> SINGLESPEED HOTROD >>>

Thanks guys! Anything for a few extra votes, huh?
Nah, cars and bikes just go well together...

@ Dr Tankenstein:
There seems to be more than just a few VeeDub-lovers on this board. The Bug is cool. But the really cool thing about it is my sis built it herself. With help from friends ofcourse. I like that color too. It's a vintage green from Mercedes (commercial) that I helped her to pick out.

Diggin the bike next to vdub. I would totally put a roof rack and mount the bike on top.

Nah... We like things clean and subtle. Besides, a bike has to stay on the road and be ridden 8)

Thanks for all the nice comments guys!
Back to work...

Re: >>> SINGLESPEED HOTROD >>>

Your sisters bug is neat, very cool 8) I drove a '72 as my daily for 8 years so I have a soft spot for them  Mine wasnt so subtle, it was bright yellow and had taxi signage on the doors

So is that garage door project, a... um... legal project? Make sure you post some pics of the finished art

Haha, but I really enjoy seeing so many different Bugs. Especially The roofrack versions. But those things are just not 'us'. Bugs are still relatively cheap and relatively plenty. They should be the hotrods of nowadays imho. Especially overhere in Europe. There seems to be a lot of interest in the bug so here are some more pictures I took last year:
Beetles at The Bergen (Holland)

The garagedoors project is legal. This industrial building is the setting for a streetart-event that is coming up soon. My friend and I did the logo-design and were asked to put it on the entrance. The other door is up to us to decide what goes on it. We'll start tomorow, if weather allows... Schedule is very tight, so lot's of stressing about  But at this moment I'm still figuring out how to 'transfer' the design onto the BIG door...

Roofrack wasnt only for show either, wish I had a pic of the bookcase we bought from Ikea on the roofrack, or when I was moving house and pulled the passenger seat and back seat and had the interior and roofrack loaded up to the hilt

Have been playing around with that idea, but my preference points me to a different shade of green... (if I'll go for green ofcourse)

Thanks Kota. I fell in love with that bike color as soon as I wiped off those ugly stickers and painted the forks black... Now I'm torn between this original paint (really good condition) and my original idea: some vintage 30's/40's/50's-shade...

@ Hewey
That looks like fun! Whitewalls, painted steelies, chrome caps'n'rings... That's a hotrod!
Thanks for sharing.
