A couple years ago, I saved this hit by a car J.C. Higgins from the trash pile. I always figured I'd build a lowrider out if it.

That means I can use this old red band for the bomber.
I'll add cantilever brakes as well, but for now I'm off to do my least favorite part of bike building... Wheel building.
After some clean up of course.

Ok wheel builders, I need your help.
Every time I try to do this, something doesn't seem right.
The hub and spoke came from a 26 inch rim, and went to a different 26 inch rim. But I feel like I shouldn't have this much spoke sticking out anywhere.
Did I do it wrong again?

You aren't folowing the lacing pattern right. Look at the difference in the angles of the new spokes compared to the old wheel.

Yeah, I realized I did 2 cross not 3. But now I have a triangle at the valve hole where I should have an open space. Should be ok though, I think. Maybe just difficult to get air in.

That triangle has to do with where you start the lacing. Looks like enough room, but may be worth a test first.

I finally found a good instructional video on YouTube. I'll share it here.

Personally, I find this video much easier to follow. I'll be using it as a guide when I put some of my wheels back together.

The first time i built a wheel, I used that video. I couldn't get it true, so took it to LBS. He didn't know how I did it, but it was laced backwards. So he just re did it.
