It went much smoother than I expected and had time to do the frame as well. After starting the partial assembly on the frame earlier today, I had rolled it back to my other bikes. It was cool to get this pic next to the Rally Sport that gave me the idea for the colors. Pretty good match.

I removed the wheel of course, but decided to leave the butterfly kickstand on for the clearcoating. It was so much easier to paint and I feel I was able to do a more thorough job this way.

Now I just have hope that all of the clear cures well with no issues. We shall know in the morning.

Clear is looking great on all of the parts! But I can tell that I need to let it bake in more before I get to play with all of it. Maybe by the end of the day I can start some of the light assembly. Then finish up tomorrow.

Just noticed I crossed the 20,000 views threshold! That is pretty wild to think that my goofy way of building is entertaining enough to reach that. These build offs are just as fun for me rather than tinkering on a bike in a vacuum. GTB brothers!

Playing around with ugly wine stops while letting the clear coat cure

For now, here is what I did with the ugly wine stops.

Here are the steps I went through to change those ugly wine stops to cool springer sissy bar spikes.

After I starting laying the paint on the spikes, I pulled out the frame and started the assembly again, but this time with clear coated parts.

This is where all of the work we put into these builds pays us back with smiles.

Got the rear wheel on with the axle tensioners. I like how Kenny's coppertone tan is looking with the frame too.

Installed the main fork legs. Oh yeah, This was time I had two major pieces back together with the paint. It was great to see my paint scheme for the front work so well. I also like how the V of the springer fork top bracket sorta mimics the old Elgin headbadge Vs. I feel the coppertone bottom section paint was the right thing to do too.

On to the springer section of the fork.

This section looked great assembled, but still didn't prepare me for how it would look with the main fork and frame.

When I got this all bolted up, it really blew me away!!! I stepped back from the bike and any one in the neighboring courtyards could have heard me as I just went, "DAMMMMMMNNNNN!!!!"

This, this, is something completely different! It's not only a Steamroller, it's a steamed, cleaned, pressed, pinned and tucked Roller!! It' s like the coolest painted tractor you ever saw on an 18 wheeler.

This, this, is something completely different! It's not only a Steamroller, it's a steamed, cleaned, pressed, pinned and tucked Roller!! It' s like the coolest painted tractor you ever saw on an 18 wheeler.

Thanks brother. You know I rarely let my builds get bound by their name. Also most of the time during the build I tend to look at the old painted parts as if they are black and white until the very end. Just look how different VerBoten looked at the end or even Western Sizzler last year. I am EXTREMELY PLEASED with how the paint has turned out on this one so far.

As you can imagine, I couldn't wait to get the front wheel on SteamRoller once I had the fork installed. Once again, I just walked around it staring at different angles and talking to myself. I mean, I really was blown away at how well it all just works together so far. These wheels are perfect and I am so glad that I didn't paint any coppertone on the wheels. The Kennys are just the right accent.

And the last thing I was able to install before leaving to go out to dinner with Queenfish were the handlebars. I think I made the right decision to paint them coppertone and silver. They just accentuate the rest of the bike so well. I think that was enough smiles for one day, my cheek muscles are hurting.

Been plugging away at SteamRoller this morning. Few delays because of more small parts, nuts, and bolts paint.

Man, what a LONG day it has been. Started early as I pulled the parts together I realized a few more small parts that needed painting, or in the case of the guard brackets needed some coppertone where they crossed the coppertone sections of the frame.

Tightened down the springer fork and added the acorn nuts back.

I like how the bearing cups add another silver stripe to the BB.

By that time the accents on the guards braces were dry enough to work with.
I like how the coppertone rivet screws work with the painted guard.

It was great seeing how well the guard adds to the color flow on this build!!!!! Yowza!
