OK ..in hounour of Poppa Wheelie! and with his permission I had to build this bike!

003-3.jpg

But with a few COOOOOL extras!

first thing first......find a tiki

IMG_3677.jpg

a new coat of stain and there you have it! It looks a little like the one worn by Mike Brady in that surf episode of the Brady Bunch lol

I started with the frame I got from "NogoodNic42" in exchange for the seat that I did for him.....I belive it was a early 50s Schwinn..... I can't find the picture of the bike when I got it from Nic but here it is back from powdercoating :D

The colour is Sun Gold....and like Poppa the high lights will be brown as well.

I first started with making the tank...I used mahogany then stained both the tank and the tiki with a wild cherry ....it will still need another sanding and another coat of stain....it will be finished with a few coats of spray laquer

Re: the Weki Tiki or (The Gilligan!)

Looks great. I like the wood and gold powder coat together.

Re: the Weki Tiki or (The Gilligan!)

ahhh daaang. im likin' it already. i've been thinkin' about revampin' the "kreeki tiki". I think this is gonna be the inspiration I needed.

Re: the Weki Tiki or (The Gilligan!)

thanks guys!

I better get a move on before Pappa beats me to all the cool add on's

today I was able to get the bottom bracket together and on and I'm also trying to make all the chrome black. I could find a head set in black but not a bottom bracket...so I painted it.

IMG_3687.jpg

I also had the sproket and the crank arms powder coated.

the cool thing of the day was an Idea from Clothes "Pin" in aka Kev!

"Man you need bambo on this thing! here ....and here...and here too lol

so I started with the kick stand!

IMG_3707.jpg

because of the curve on both ends I could not slide the bambo on so I had to split it, then reglue it

IMG_3721.jpg

well I could not stop there! So when I put the front springer on, somthing had to be done about the chrome .....thanks Kev  !

IMG_3713.jpg

I'm going to use rope on the top of the bambo to finish it off....I just hope I allowed enough room for travel :D

enough for today

Re: the Weki Tiki or (The Gilligan!)

Oh no you did int! :) That bike is looking sick, the bamboo is the koolest touch, its perfect.

Re: the Weki Tiki or (The Gilligan!)

I quess I should talk alittle about the front rim and tire.

with the help of my good friend Troy at "Maple Ridge Cycle" (because I just can't seam to get it right  ) I had him show me the ropes when it comes to laceing a rim

again I had the rims powder coated brown and used black spokes

IMG_3696.jpg

the cool add on was that I was given a set of wide whites with the Hawaii flower as the tread
for my B-day on the 15th from a real good friend "Kev"

thanks Bro!!!

yes it was my B-day on the 15th....big "37"

Re: the Weki Tiki or (The Gilligan!)

You are going to leave no stone unturned. Nice details.

Re: the Weki Tiki or (The Gilligan!)

love the bamboo touches...this thing is really impressive. great thinking...i'm loving it and having a
good laugh seeing what you're comming up with! keep it up.

Re: the Weki Tiki or (The Gilligan!)

oh yea kev is always good for a few out there ideas. lookin good

Re: the Weki Tiki or (The Gilligan!)

Looking good so far. Can't wait to see it finished. I think the coconut headlight would be a nice touch wespecially with the bamboo pieces.

Re: the Weki Tiki or (The Gilligan!)

no worry on the coconut head light! its in the works!

first I wanted to get the rack out of the way!

what's a Hawaii bike without a bambo raft!?

I started with an old bike rack that I had
IMG_3762.jpg

then I got some bambo

IMG_3763.jpg

then I started to make a raft

IMG_3768.jpg

I laid out the bambo then lashed both the Mid fender bracket and the middle rack post together using sisal rope.

IMG_3769.jpg

next I added a back rest and then lashed the raft to the bike rack!

IMG_3770.jpg

IMG_3769-1.jpg

I then used bambo to cover the remainder four posts :D
IMG_3778.jpg

I plan to finish the bottom of the rack by lashing it once again using the sisal rope.

Once its dry I will take a better picture for you all

Re: the Weki Tiki or (The Gilligan!)

WOW! Nice!
There was something about it before but you really put somethought into the addidyions!
Bonkers!

Re: the Weki Tiki or (The Gilligan!)

well I was able to get a little more done!

The rear fender was out too far and would not bend back in ....so by using a little sisal rope I changed that.
IMG_3784.jpg

the same was done to the front

IMG_3786-1.jpg

I thought you all would like this little add on
IMG_3785-1.jpg

I also found a better place for the Tiki

IMG_3789-1.jpg

IMG_3793.jpg

IMG_3794-1.jpg

tomorrow It will get some new lines and I will also finish up the head light. There are a few more add ons but I have not finished them just yet!
