Sunday! Sunday! ... I'll be racing this Sunday (Masters 50+ Cat 1-4). My first cross race since 2019. I opted out of the limited races held in 2020 for Covid reasons, and despite not being in race fitness, I am stoked to give it a go. It's going to be a mud fest. It's been raining a lot lately.

2017 Ridley XKnight. Carbon frame and fork.
Wish we could all be there to heckle and give hand ups 😂

Good luck man!!

My '51 Phantom needs a clean and grease and some new pedals but that will not stop me. Getting in a few rides before the snow flies and I will have a chance to disassemble and clean this one up right. Once the snow is here only the winter warrior will be out and about.

My beach bruiser cruiser, as in I lost a power slide and scuffed my knee up, maybe I'll go back to my king sting for stunts....

For clarification, can you describe the makeup of your bike?
Hi. Frame is a CWC 39 Roadmaster 4 gill. The 4 gill frame is an inch taller in the head tube than the usual cwc men’s frame.

-Stem and light from the same bike.
-Swan fork from a lady’s bike of the same era. I have the shockmaster fork but prefer rigid forks.
-Fenders, chainguard and truss rods from a 47 CWC lady’s bike.
-McCaskey tiller bars.
-Araya rims, 7 speed nexus wheel set from an unknown Taiwanese cruiser.
-S&M speedball tires
-Taiwanese dog leg crank from a late Schwinn
-Brooks saddle, Odyssey triple trap pedals.

I will be fitting a skiptooth front sprocket when it arrives. It had black paint in the bottom bracket so I assume it would have originally looked like this bike. The frame was repainted white by the previous owner.

Did we ever get a race report on this?

nope. Sorry.
Let's start with the excuses: 1. I'm recently recovered from Lyme Disease and still not 100%. 2. I went two months with no exercise while recovering. 3. I'm completely outclassed in the Masters 50+ races because they are Cat 1-4 and I'm only a 4. It's like racing against ex-pros. 5. It was my first race since 2019 due to the pandemic. 6. I suspected prior to the start that I was dehydrated, and confirmed it by lap 2.

ok, having said that, I placed 27th out of 30, two laps down on the rest of the field (27, 28, and 29th all two laps down).

but... I'm glad I did it. Felt great to be back in it after a long break. I'm looking forward to my next race on Nov 28th.

Sounds like based on everything you had stacked against you, it was admirable to finish! Awesome effort. Any day on a bike is good

Lately I stick to my Chinese daily. It's still my favorite bike for the dark time of the year. I have also a set of spikes read to put on if it gets below zero...
Today I took it for my trip to my shed building site and in the light of my headlamp you see why I prefer this bike at this time of the year...
