As much as I'd like to use CHARCUTERIE as the name, I'm saving it for my next punk prog band and since it's a Spaceliner this title will do. I just ran out to the garage and snapped a pic. It's just hanging there waiting to be stripped.

I'm in with a mostly intact Spaceliner.

I never get tired of Spaceliner builds. They just always look cool and seem to be one of the most versatile frames in regards to style. Can't wait to see this GCLiner take shape!

I've been sitting on this one for a while. I'm curious if you have ever built a Spaceliner, Kingfish? I don't recall one. That said I'm also researching paint colors over chrome. A big part of the build here will be the color. This frame is a red painted chrome frame and since the red is coming off already it's a no brainer. I'm tempted to try a red to chrome to blue fade and have a patriotic Space Force build, but no it can't be that easy...

Tore the Spaceliner down today and stripped the Flightliner donor of it's fork and wheels. Quick stance mock-up (I wish more guys would do a mock-up. It gives us all something to see...)

I've got to get some more stripper and I'm hoping the steel forks will polish up enough for the "Spectraflame" paint job. I need to tear the back wheel apart too. The rim is just crusty gray paint over rust I think... Nice 3 spd drum brake hub though, we'll be keeping that.

Hey @MattiThundrrr , I think we need another thread in this BO forum called 'One-liners'. Since you seem to have a good handle on this type of humor, maybe you could weave that thread? I've read three already today that had me in stitches. (sorry, fell into OJ pun mode there....different kind of 'humor')

Carl has a good one here...while trying to remove the red paint from his Spaceliner,
"Do I really need a bigger tube of Visene to get the red out?"

Tucker, while explaining that he made some progress on a mock up,
"I got some time to throw a few parts at the bike.( the wife’s list is going to suffer, it’s ok we have not had a good fight in a long time. We’re due). "

And finally, Crash, on the sacrifices that must be made sometimes, building bikes,
"This is the worst looking Huffy Twin Stick I have ever seen in my life. But you cannot find these... so I will restore it. This may be the hardest part of the whole build. I had to trade it for one of my children, (God speed, little Daniel!) so I must get it done."

Sorry for the mini-hijack of your thread @GuitarlCarl , you hit my funny bone just right!

I've got most of the red off but the odd thin "primer" remains. But it comes off easily enough, I think I can buff it out with 4 aught. The fork is a different matter and I may switch it out with the chrome one on Grease Slapper. I was hoping for chrome under the paint but no... It came from a Flightliner so I should have known better. Chrome isn't the final finish but I gotta get it there first.

I might have an idea what you mean by "Chrome isn't the final finish but I gotta get it there first." On a couple of my parts, where the primer didn't come off the way I wanted, I used a chrome rattle can paint on it first, then the final 'finish'.
I really like that fork you have on there. Hope you can retain it on the build!

Mock-ups are the best way to find out if an idea is as good as it was in your head. I do many mock-ups on every build. That's a great looking project! Love those stylish Spaceliner frames! And the flipped stock springer is perfect. Rock on!

Some Spaceliners are chrome (all?) And then some are painted over the chrome. When the red comes off it sometimes leaves a bit of a thin gray coat that's not really primer per se, but I think it's applied to allow the red to "stick" to the chrome. I plan on changing the color of Deep Space to a similar finish as early Hot Wheels. They called it Spectraflame, Antifreeze being a desirable color to find now, so that's a color option. Also a transparent black sprayed over the chrome fits well with the Deep Space theme. But first I'd like the chrome to be clean of the red and the thin gray coat. So yeah, chrome isn't the final finish but I gotta get it there first...

We've both been here before. I too do many mockups, I think they're also a better read than a bunch of close-up shots of spoke nipples and shift mechanisms. Some pictures of in process bits are fine but show me the bike once in a while so I can visualize where you're going.

Told ya the rim was crusty...

Totally agree. The idea is to make the whole better than just the sum of the parts. It all has to work together.

That's not the right tank...

and the first coat of a few thin coats, if I follow the directions...lol

It's not the best chrome, but should work for this crank cap. I also did a little more buffing on the frame but nothing new to see yet. I've got guitar work and bike things crying out for some 4 aught. Guess I'm heading to the store...
