Good evening all!
I just bought a custom that I would like a bit of help ID-wose because it doesn't seem to follow any of the rules of other Monarks. Hopefully the head badge, chaingaurd, and stamped alluminum plate cam help but it has my head scratching...
From 1947 through 1954 I understand Monark used alluminum tags which I have but my serial number is very low. I can read the following from the picture...

Model-4406
Serial -A0031477

Any idea to the approximate year? Thanks!

This ad is a 47 model. The aluminum tag was supposedly started in 1946, so it may be a 47, if there is one more number at the end.

I think I have all the numbers for the tag because the zeros towards the beginning are holding the places for a 7 digits serial. Just very strange.

You mean this bike?

I recognized that as Ian's build right away. @ifitsfreeitsforme do you have any info.

seems it went to an appreciative owner. Sometimes that's all you can ask for. Just two, maybe three more old builds to sell, and I'll be down to two rats.

Yesss that's it! Thanks for the replies and connections folks I appreciate it! I tried to look through the build off winners but must have not used the proper search heading last night.

Heading out now for a rip with 3 speeeeeeds woo hoo! I need that Colorflow too!

I can go back to the white wheels/single speed original setup down the road but she rides soooo nice as is! Side note it may not be a 55/57 after all since it does have the stamped serial but it's super ...... as a 47 or 57. Would love to source a train fender light I can black out but I just want to enjoy it as is for the moment. Thanks again everyone! I would have mentioned the build off 2nd place heritage and Ian but again I just didn't find what I was looking for using the search function after a few IPAs last night. THANKS IAN!

I find the Western Auto numbers to be a more accurate guide for post-war...

I think the implication is that Western Auto didn't purchase any '46s. Anything lower than the '47 range should be assumed to be '46 or early '47.
