Thank you @Bike from the Dead for ripping through my build thread! 🙏🏻 I think a lot of things fell in to place for this build, with parts had and parts found. I’m glad you like the tank! Other than minimal art skills and an eye for symmetry, my talents are limited. I got super lucky to find the material for my tank base. Sculpture Block. The process went smooth and I was excited to share it, hoping others would try doing something similar down the line. Somewhat affordable way to make a tank. I dig what you are doing as well. Learning a lot from watching your processes for developing patina. We still have a lots of little things to do. I thought my 3 speed wheel build would stop the build in its tracks, but luck turned for the better. Hope to see you at the finish line.
Yeah, I've got a lot of builds to catch up on, and not a ton of time to do it. Won't stop me from trying though! I think that sculpture block stuff is super cool! I'll have to try that stuff out once I've exhausted my wood supply. Minimal art skills my butt; you sculpted a tank out of a material I hadn't heard of before, slicked it with bondini, smoothed it to perfection, then expertly painted some tasteful scallops over that smooth satin black paint job! If that's not expert-level art, I don't know what is!

Thanks! Looks like we're both learning how to work with new materials to breathe new life into our bikes. I'm currently trying to get my coaster brake rebuilt, and I'm a bit nervous. Never done one of these Komet Super hubs before, and I'm hoping my 2nd ever coaster brake rebuild turns out right. I hope I'll see you at the finish line too! Your bike is just too cool!

I have decided on a rear fender I will use, but the attachment points have forced me to swap out the sissy bar. The one I am currently using, came with the seat and had pretty bad welds to stop the bar from sliding. I sanded them off but the areas started rusting fast. Forgot to spray some chrome paint and clear on it. The sissy bar that I will now use, will be from my winter build bike and is new. It is made in a thicker diameter, which should mate up with the brake mount I’m building better than the current one. This moves the sissy bar mounting point to the axel and makes the mounting points for the fender available. Some work on the somewhat rusty fender is needed to make it shine and install the mudflap.

Working on this leather tool bag I picked up a while ago. I didn’t like the fringe so it has been cut off. Removed the medallion from the center to see if I wanted to mount the license plate there. Not sure just yet. I like this bag because it is the perfect size to fit tools or my Bluetooth speaker. It will mount up to the sissy bar.

I’m going to have to see the chain guard with the tank. I don’t usually run a chain guard, because I really like the full view of a chain ring and chain. It was a fun exercise. I have never made graphics before, let alone hand cut. I did swap the sissy bar out. Much beefier but sits slightly lower for seat height. It fits me perfect at this stage. This swap made room for the chosen fender to attach cleanly. I have this Maltese Cross that came from a baking dish, helping mount the fender to the frame. Now some fender polishing and work on the sissy bar brake mount.

I got to work on soldering up the sissy bar brake mount and finished just before some good rain. I will next use my dremel to cut the vertical mounting areas open, and epoxy a hardwood dowel inside. This adds some extra support and keeps the tube from crushing when mounting the brake. Then it will be vertically drilled, painted and assembled. Attaches with chrome pipe clamps and is adjustable according to seat height needs. I did this on my first RRBBO

I remember that custom brake crossover.
I think the guard will look fine, but if you want to tone down the red a little, I would leave the side dart and maybe just paint the top section black. Hard to say without seeing how it flows with the tank.

View attachment 206487I was thinking the same on toning down the red in that way. The tank combo is key. Shouldn’t be too hard to hit it with black again. I wanted to hold on a reveal with the tank on, but may need see how it “feels”. The tough part will be transporting it for photos and not banging it up. I have some spots picked out and I may need to bubble wrap it to transport.I just don’t want to keep reassembling the tank to the bike. Once I get good photos, I’m not too concerned about it getting knocked around a bit.

I couldn’t help it so I mocked up the tank with the chain guard. I’m liking it together.

I didn't think I'd like the guard with all the red but looks great assembled!
I felt the same way after it painted it and untaped the work. But when I put it on the bike my mind was changed. It seems to even out the amount of red up front and brings the eye towards the center of the bike. Thanks!🙏🏻

I really like that chain guard! It needs that much red to compliment the tank! And your vintage white parts work perfectly on this build. Bring 'er across that Finished line!
Thank you much! @OddJob 🙏🏻. For the tank and the guard to not be thought out together, they seem to compliment one another well. My wife pointed out that the scallops I put on the guard, mimic a trident 🔱 which I did not notice. I should have incorporated that idea more. Old 60’s choppers/bobbers with dirty white grips and seats always intrigued me, and was the inspiration for white touches. I’m getting close to the finish line! A few touches left. A few obstacles

I was going to elaborate further by saying the same thing but hit the 'Post' button instead. Lol!

For me it draws the eye from front to back & creates balance. Then you get to see all the smaller details around the areas that are strongest, visually, that link it all together. Very nice!:41::41::41:
