Bringing back the build off 16 winner for a revamp.
20210902_164340.jpg

This time I plan to build it up as a muscle bike, with the two out of three rules being, a fat and skinny, plus ape hangers.

Will use a 20x3 out back, with a 26 or 700c up front. Leaning towards the pro class style rim I radial laced for my off road build, but didn't use.

This build will be somewhat inspired by custom baggers, with their small and fat rear's, and tall and skinny fronts.

Got a ton of chopping and trial fitting done today.

Picked this up a few weeks ago as a donor bike, will be using the cranks and rear wheel from this one

After trimming off the old rear triangle, I tacked on the rear triangle from a 26" mtb. Then tried on the shorter cranks from the donor. The pedal is flush with the bottom of the frame. Perfect.

Front and rear wheels. Crazy difference in size

Sitting the rear wheel on for a look see.
Thinking This might actually work

I had this set up as threadless previously. I found an old 1" headset and shimmed the cups to fit. I only had a 1" threaded fork in stock that would give me the look I was after.

Found a stem that matched the angle of the top tube perfectly. Like it was meant to be.

Skull valve caps to make it extra tuff

Front wheel, fork, bars fitted

Found a sweet fender in the parts pile and stood back for a look.

Loving the look up front at this point

Still a lot of work to do out back. But I think the concept is sound.

Ah, you chopped the rear off, so there is no going back :)

I only have a few frames, and I keep reworking them as different kinds of bikes as well - although I don't yet have a welder.
Yes, I chopped off the rear. Took a while to work up the courage to chop it. But I can always weld it back on. It's only metal lol.
I definitely recommend a welder for the shop.

I would have loved to see the original fat rear together with the new skinny front...!

Is the chain still going to be on the left hand side, or will it still be 'are the chains...', or something else?

I love seeing the big wheel on the front!

The chain will be on the proper side this time around. I just happened to slot the rear wheel on back to front whilst messing with it.

Low and cool. I like the exaggerated chopper look. I would have had a hard time cutting up the original too but this vision for the bike is definitely cool. Might handle a little better too.

Is it acceptable to pair Lee Chi leavers and brake arms together? I think the moto leaver suits the build

Mounted a suicide shifter just under the seat on the left side and got the gears running sweet. This required some chain guides to keep everything in place. Connected up the rear brake, and finally took it for a test ride.

The steering wants to flop a little, but is to be expected. Cruises pretty sweet.

Now that is a bit of a parting for the chain, I like it!

I have never had a bike with that kind of steering, so I wonder does the front wheel want to flop to the side when you are off it?

Yes, it does tend to want to flop over all the time. Due to the extreme angles
