I was on a flight recently and saw these in the skymall catalog. Has anybody seen one in person? Kind of pricey but kind of cool. I really dig the rear tire on the micro rail but think the proportions of the adult bike look better. A nanner and some apes and these could be really sweet.

I'm into old Huffys so I too was a little put off by the name. Calling it a Rail and claiming it is the worlds first Dragster bike??? The name of this thing is definitely sacrelig. But with that bit aside, how about that 16x6 x8 rear tire and cargo bike style steering?

Looks like a better bike for a cargo platform than a bike to look cool on. They have some accessories planned including a kiddie carrier and flatbed w/rails.

Reminds me of the Bilenky Cargo bike

Agreed; long-standing design, and one I've long appreciated. Been wanting a Bilenky Chuckwagon for years, even before they came up with a name for it. In the end, I can't justify the expense for what is, in reality, a cargo bike with mediocre cargo capacity. Looking at pulling the trigger on a Haley in 2015....

I like the NitroRail full-size bike, but at a grand plus whatever they want for the "Dudester" pet/cargo platform, I think I could get something more sensible.... like a Soma PickUp Artist for $1500 (pretty frank knock-off of the Bilenky)....

Seriously, the rim-brake version of the Haley costs $1650:

And, it's tough to beat this piggie, at $600 new (but I got one for about a hundred off Craigslist:

All that comparison shopping aside, i think the NitroRail ppl should be commended for bringing something unique (if not entirely groundbraking) to the market.... I think they'll do well if they can bring the price down a bit... I suspect a good amount of the MSRP is tied up in the goofy carbon-look cranks and the Alfie hub.... They could drop price without biting into profit by running some alloy cranks or some tubular BMX cranks (which'd suit the bike better, IMO) and swapping the Alfie 8 for a Sturmey 3....

So I sent an email to the guys at Nitro Rail cause I had a few questions about the bikes. To my surprise the owner/founder gave me a call this morning. I have to say it sounds like a VERY well constructed product. He spent the last 4 months in China personally overseeing all aspects of construction and made some interesting decisions in the spirit of quality control. One example he gave was how he was unhappy with the way the frames were being bent so he got a company that bends headers to build the frames instead of a traditional bicycle manufacturer. Of course I haven't seen one in person but this guy has put a lot into the design, manufacture and choice of components. He currently has a handful of them here and ready to be shipped out. Just a couple in each color. They are waiting for the first big shipment to arrive and it will be here and ready to go through customs before January 15.

I gave him a little background on myself and in the process mentioned the RRB website. RRB was news to him but he was very excited to hear about all the custom bike guys and blown away with some of the incredible builds on here. He was very interested in any input and or concerns and is open to any and all suggestions. I was honest with him and told him I thought the biggest hurdle was the MSRP.

With that in mind, and in an effort to get the word out about the Nitro Rail, he decided to give anybody on here a sizeable discount. The current MSRP is $999 for the Nitro Rail and $399 for the Micro Rail. RRB members can put in the promo code GD777 or GD333 and the price will be $777 and $333 respectively. In my opinion that a considerable savings and it makes the purchase price much more reasonable.

He also has a few other bike products soon to be available. Most notably are machine gun barrel (looking) seat posts and a true slick fat tire.

After talking to him, I am really hopeful that the bikes are a success. This is a small time fabricator trying to create something different and trying to bust into a tough market.

Crash, PM sent to try and squash any bad blood. Not my intention to start anything.

Everyone else, I just want to clarify that I am not trying to sell these bikes. I just thought some of you might be into them and might want to take advantage of the cheaper price that was offered to me.

I'm with Crash on this one. I also saw it in Sky Mall a few weeks ago and had to laugh.
Most of the comments here relate to the similarities to a cargo bike, but that isn't how they are marketing it. They market the name in relation to drag racing and made a bogus claim to be "the first". I don't think there's any relationship between an elitist attitude and simply trying to set the record straight.

I think the coolest thing about the NitroRail is the pet/cargo platform. TBH, when I see linkage steering, I immediately think about cargo- or family member-hauling. Linkage steering does not evoke any connections with drag racing, least not in my mind. I think the rear end of the bike looks kinda cool, in a cheesy fake exhaust way, though..... Regardless, you're right that claiming to be the "first drag bike" is hilariously bogus, but I do see some fun potential in the NitroRail's overall design.

Here's some food for thought: a couple of Bilenky Viewpoint tandems--- somebody point those folks in the direction of the dragstrip!!! :21::rofl::21:

I guess I'm too attached to the real Rail of the late '60s/early '70s to give that bike anything but a cursory "pffffffffft".

Thanks for the thoughts BUT! The Nitro Rail is designed with a top fuel dragster in mind. Dragster huge back tire, small front tire, long sleek round tube frame, drag link and exhaust tubes. Yes people are relating it to a cargo bike because of it length, a cargo bike looks nothing like a dragster as well as the tandem bike shown.

Agreed, but...

This is a NitroRail.... Which does it more closely resemble?

A top fuel dragster, or...

A Bilenky Chuck Wagon?

I understand what you're trying to with the bike, and it's a very nice design. I like it. I do believe that, compared to any other production bike, it looks more like a top fuel dragster than all the rest. But, if I were to drop a grand on one, I wouldn't feel inclined to race it. I'd just find ways to strap a platform on it, so I could use it to go grocery shopping, or to haul lumber. B/c it looks more "cargo" than "drag", to me.

Hey Guys,
My son wanted to go to the shop and build a bicycle, he didn't want a chopper like everybody else, so he said Dad can we build a dragster bike. So we did, dragsters have long fronts and don't carry cargo just built for speed. We took the bike out in the street and people went nuts. So I said Bud I think we got something and now brought it to market. Courtney Force owns one, Robert HIGHT's daughter owns one and we sold a bunch to the NHRA market. We had no intent of a cargo bike BUT now that people are calling it the coolest cargo bike, we will go down that road too. Trying to build my sons future and build cool stuff as a father and son team. For more builds go to ajbuilt.com
I'm trying to figure out how to post pictures but with no luck. Hopefully I can figure it out. A lot better at fabricating then computers. However I can design like a mad man in the 3-D CAD.

Thanks man, Rat Rod Bikes looks like a great site. Pedal to the metal.
