I've been into the bicycle hobby since I was 12. I joined the Schwinn Collectornet forums in 1996. I'm knowledgeable about old bicycles, but got out of the hobby in 2006 because I was barely able to support myself and had nowhere to store them. When I was a teenager, I had hundreds of vintage bicycles. Mostly junk, but a few nice ones, too. Now I am more of a believer in quality than quantity.
I am a big fan of Cleveland Welding bicycles, particularly the Wards Hawthorne models, which seemed to be a step up. I used to own a couple 1940s Hawthorne Comets when I was a kid in the 1990s. One ended up restored and in a private collection, another ended up in a museum and I miss them.
Balloon tire bicycles are my favorite, but I like musclebikes, too. Pre-WWII bikes fascinate me, as well. I am wanting to get back into the vintage bicycle hobby, but in moderation.
