I made a tank insert for my 1949 Hex Tube "HEXtreme" using a combination of roof flashing, aluminum honeycomb, and an Office Depot red vinyl book report folder.

For my Build Off 16 entry, I used some old rough sawn timber for the tank ! View attachment 174465
That's rat rod my friend. Use what you dig up not what you've bought. I have a back yard build off we're I'm at. Once a month show and shine. Just home built and you must do 80% of your build no farming it out

Twin Beam Hawthorne mahogany & cedar tank on the the finished product. Matching full-wooden rear rack to come (a tree literally fell on the bike's rear end and killed the metal one)

I have a fleet of them I built for my collection. 22 and counting, everything from rusty barn finds to my own customs. Mostly found in Colorado's small towns picking.

Lol to the idea that I should post my junk after two illustrious builders, but here's Duck Norris. Tank is currently off for some graphics.

Pine(?) boards from scrap pallet sculpted, planed, sanded, and hit with a drop or two of tung oil
That's what it's all about Matt, I don't see junk, I see a awesome looking bike...

I've got an idea for a tank that's too good not to share. The problem for me is the fabrication. A rubber inflatable tank made from a large inner tube, a truck tube. It would incorporate the valve stem to inable inflation. I'm thinking it would be stitched inside out like a football and then reversed for the final bit of stitching. Maybe glue and stitches? I don't know how to make it but it'd be cool.

Carl.
