JC Higgins hub question

Help Support Rat Rod Bikes Bicycle Forum:
Bring it to a LBS that has a fixed gear cog in stock or a spare laying around.
i don't have one in hand yet... i was thinking of buying on flee bay, but before i spend the cash i'd like to know if it would work for my needs. if i actually had one, i would have done that already!

That's a good question that might be better answered over at The CABE. I can tell you this much; the hub has TWO sets of narrow threads--right-handed for the cog & left-handed for the retaining ring. The outer threads are ever-so-slightly smaller in diameter, which allows the cog to pass over them without interference. Zoom in carefully on the photo and you can just make that out...once you know what you're looking for.

Donald, this link may be of interest to you. It stands to reason that if a vintage skiptooth cog fits a modern hub, the reverse must also hold true.

yep, it looks like a regular single speed or track hub setup. i just don't want to buy one and find out that the threading is something proprietary.
