I saw this pic of a light made from bike wheels and license plates. I have some parts gathering dust so I'm going to give it a go. I have 2 SA hub shells and have scrounged up enough spokes to lace them up, then attach the 6 plates I have. The 26" wheel has a 22.5" diameter, so 6 plates at 12" each is just the right amount top circle the wheels. Those in the pic must be 27" rims if my math is correct.
Once I get them together I'll look for a light fixture.

Got the wheels laced but they won't need truing for this. I had planned on using one of the SA hubs for a bike, but they were too far gone and missing too many parts. This 1972 shell was scored up pretty badly also.

I'll need 24 1 3/4 nuts and bolts to attach the tags.

It went together fairly easily, the alloy rims were easy to drill through. The wife didn't like the idea but now might want it in the house. That will secure funds for a nicer light fixture.

I picked up a light fixture, LEDs in three colors!
I was looking at the 2 dollar drop light but the wife wanted this. That's ok by me. But instead of the shop, it's going in the kitchen with the high ceiling, right over the dining table. I just have to attach it somehow. I also picked some chain to hang it with.
A bench grinder was on my list also, but the hand grinder won out.
