A couple thoughts. First, the hubs on the varsity’s are amazing. If you are into building your own wheels a varsity is gold. Second, I used 1080 long reach brakes from Porkchop BMX. The long reach sacrifices mechanical advantage and they don’t have tremendous stopping power. But, yes the lack of a front brake was just for a clean look. The first bike had a coaster brake, which looks the cleanest.

PS. I love the look of your bikes. I may mimic that next time I run into a step through frame.

I love stickers of all types and I see your rear wheel has an abundance of colorful stickers. I always worry about Chicago Schwinn step through frames. I've seen quite a few bent seatpost tubes on Schwinns and other brands from the good old days. This should be a sweet riding bike.
