Love the wind chime !! I’ve got a plan to build a “huge” one out of various sizes of pressure cylinders. I have all the cylinders and the center ball for the strike, but I’m trying to come up with the steel to build a frame to hold it all !

That sounds pretty ambitious. You must have a lot of room up there in Nebraska.

How close are your neighbors?
 
I hadn't thought of that first situation. Though I can't picture riding it like that because the distance to the grips will always be in flux.. like riding an aging bull I'd imagine. I can't quite envision where or what the swivel and slide would be in the second setup. Could you hit me with some descriptive images? I was also pondering @twojs.bike's Ladybug seating situation as it allows for a pivot where the seat already has one at an angle that allows movement. Maybe lose some length and cut the post just after the bend or force the seat's clamp/sleeve on closer to the bend riding the top of the bar.. but that sounds clunky.

That will be an interesting situation, with suspension on top of suspension.

Also, With that link on the front of the banana it looks like the front of the banana will simply drop to the top tube and stay there.

I’ve been trying to analyze that situation in my head without doing any math, and what I am thinking is that you could get into a situation where you have a system of two different springs, with different harmonic periods, causing a beating or harmonic reinforcement of the forces involved at some situations.

It’s a difficult problem though. Kind of like predicting the motions of the tides when you have multiple periodic motions with different periods, amplitudes and alignments.

Because of these things, suspension tuning is always a black art. Lots of experimentation goes into it.

I guess what I’m trying to say is under certain situations this suspension could buck when it should squish, and vice versa, and in exaggerated ways as the harmonic resonances amplify each other.

The front link is a solid joint with a fixed pivot. It really is simple and your not building a car, you could experiment with settings if the fork has them,
I may try this quickly tomorrow and see if it's feasible, as in I'll try n throw together something to see if it works, not that you'll go this path but ive conned myself into something here, it aint gonna change the world but it'll look different, a talking point maybe 😎

These problems are always interesting to engineers and so we tend to rip into them for fun.
 
I find that if I can’t draw something, it’s because I haven’t looked at it hard enough. I didn’t realize this until I looked at the cover of a book called, I Draw what I See.

(It’s actually a very funny book of dark cartoons by Ghan Wilson. But the clue in the title made a big difference in my work.)

OK to me this is a work of art LOL
I held true to my promise of having a crack at it so here it is, after 4 hrs or so of chopping, welding, grinding and wiping sweat constantly from the brow I threw this together in the workshop battling 32c, it was a typical backyard bogan aussie thing but coz it was so hot its compulsory no shirt, bare feet and shorts welding, too hot for gloves and I even picked up a tiny bit of arc eye's so it was a real battle out there today! but I got it done, a bit rough yes and un painted but this has actually given me inspiration to carry on with this bike and make "somthing special"
so for now its just hurridly thrown together , it is all rideable and ive ridden around the yard to which my surprise was quite a relaxing easy ride, its still wobbly and cranky coz I havnt greased any bearings or even lubricated the chain but thats all coming!
you can see after welding the forks on I mounted a seatpost to the top of them and then I changed the design a bit and used an old MTB rear suspension spring instead of a swivel/pivot point up the front! it fit snuggly over the seat post in the front of the bike so it got welded there , this gave a pivot point in the front and the other end of the spring is welded to the seat's rail's, so I have 2 pivot points to allow movement, this had to be done coz the forks are welded to the rear dropouts, there is no movement back there !... yes it was tedious but all this is is really a permanent experiment and I was trying to show another member what I was on about!
Like I said it aint pretty but I can see something......different anyway coming out of this LOL

Wanted something tiki for the Christmas season on my tiki lanai. Found unpainted nutcracker kits at AC Moore Crafts. Decapitated the nutcracker and carved a tiki head. Turned the lower teeth into a tongue in the style of many tikis. Stained it and detailed very little, just a couple of highlights.

To Ulu's point, my college art teacher used to say "draw what you see, not what you know is there".

Fortunately or wisely, you have chosen a very favorable angle for your front link.

The sprung damper at the seat post, and the seat itself, are arranged in the form of a toggle mechanism. You have some vicegrip pliers right? Similar principal.

Even if that old shock absorber is very soft you will inevitably get some force in directions that your structure is not designed to absorb it without bending.

Every time you bounce, things will flex. I suspect the seat frame will flex. That could limit the force against your welding enough to keep everything in one piece.

I had to post this picture again because I love the work so much.

I am very sure that this is by David Bell (or an imitation of him).

If I should ever travel clear to the other coast of this continent to visit Washington DC, this is the form in which I would like to arrive.

Some stuff I made for fun dragging one finger across the trackpad of my laptop with Gimp(.org : indy devs, communal upkeep and one of the first free rivals to big box design software. Big fan) I recommend it for cut-n-pasting bike ideas or recoloring parts in images when considering components.

While people were gaga for dragons years back I figured I'd use them to relate through. Theres tiny but descriptive detail in the first two as these are imagined on big walls. This one's titled Inverted Totalitarianism
