I did give in and start rushing the rust. Realized I have a lot of things left to work on so couldn’t rust it forever! My buddy did point out I probably should have did a full mock up before rust because now adding an extra fab work will need cleaned with a grinder.

Hopefully get to do some mock ip this weekend. Just watered it 😂

Got paranoid about needing to fab fender mounts, so it’s inside 😂 this is a men’s huffy fender
IMG_1400.jpeg
IMG_1401.jpeg
these are off last years woman’s huffy and currently my favorite. Already really crusty and I won’t feel bad cutting them if needed!
IMG_1398.jpeg
IMG_1399.jpeg
this is of course the original monark fenders, but I kind of want to keep these and the chain guard together as a set.
IMG_1402.jpeg
Test fitting a rear rack, kind of like this as well.
IMG_1403.jpeg
Double checked the chain line, but didn’t have a lot of time to mess with it today. Was just suddenly paranoid about the possibility of a rear fender 😂😂

IMG_1425.jpeg
Got the springer on so testing fenders and a long while later I noticed something I missed. The bike is so long I have to stand on my basement stair for a photo right now.
IMG_1426.jpeg
On the ground, fenders on and uncut.
IMG_1427.jpeg
Decided to try out the original handlebars. Not a huge fan but I’ve done worse
IMG_1428.jpeg
thought about maybe rotating the fender like this and cutting it off
IMG_1429.jpeg
or the opposite and mount it like this
IMG_1430.jpeg
as always I could go fenderless.
IMG_1431.jpeg
After it all I figured out I had put the springer together backwards. So this is it fixed

IMG_1457.jpeg
Had to roll it out in the sun today for some visuals.Don’t have a set of handlebars I like but do think this is my favorite fender option.
IMG_1458.jpeg
It does get pretty low in the back. My kid was nice enough to bash it into the step and bend it into the tire once already!
IMG_1456.jpeg
Probably the best current photo I have

Hmmm....I'm with you. I like the rake the 10sp fork gives. Since the patina is "fake" how about throwing some strut rods and a random spring to assemble a funky faux-fork with the same surface treatment as the rest of your machine. It doesn't need to be functional does it? :wink1:

IMG_1529.jpeg
I’m not out of bad ideas yet, maybe gears are the answer.
IMG_1530.jpeg
Need to get it on the ground and check the stance. Building some handlebars next weekend!
IMG_1528.jpeg
When you don’t care about the paint they make handy places to hang chain

IMG_1641.jpeg
Off to see my buddy Kevin again, few hours to kill on this fine Sunday.
IMG_1643.jpeg
First step was lengthening a steer tube. Using an extra old fork and a piece Of a stem.
IMG_1644.jpeg
Had to run home in the middle and grab hardware. My floor is dirty
IMG_1645.jpeg
might have went overboard on the crazy handlebars but they position me comfortably.
IMG_1646.jpeg
Did some chain in the forks to tie it into the bike, have to get the flapper wheel back out and bare metal some parts.

Kids game was cancelled for rain, so off to work with harbor freights finest flappy disc .
IMG_1671.jpeg
Few views of the wacky handlebars built from a ten speed handlebar, two cruiser bars, a 20 inch fork and a cheapo sprocket.

Everything’s got a coat of salt, vinegar and dish soap waiting to rust. The bars certainly are wacky and I can’t wait to ride this thing around 😂

I noticed that your (very cool!) bars are lying at the same place as your frame.

Is that the shrine where parts go to rust? Rust in pieces?

I am genuinely enjoying these scrap builds.

It’s not finished but I wanted to try out the handlebars and shifter location. Cruises pretty .... well as long as you’re careful with the pedals
IMG_1774.jpeg
doesnt Need a kickstand!
IMG_1776.jpeg
At the park about a mile from my house, both my sons rode it a bit. Brakes, maybe a bit more support in the handlebars and a few other small things. The 5 speed set up is awesome. The 10 dollar huffy road bike I purchased for the multi speed parts and brakes is the first non scrap pile contribution.

Looking like an elk. Majestic!

Not much for progress, finally got some time tonight but had to fix the three bikes my kids had broken. Skiptooth chain still sucks!

Anyway getting a rear brake for sure, the donor front brake may be salvageable as well. Just gotta tear apart a few calipers.
