A work in progress, but laying down a silver base. Metallic green to follow.

and here I am thinking ‘STP’ meant Stone Temple Pilots, sorry, my ‘grunge’ is showing….
But more importantly, that paint is looking good bud! 👍🏼
That was my thoughts too. Both STP and the cool paint fade!

Spent 2hrs at the art store trying to find the right metallic green - that also had a flake - and a flake that was the right size (it's there, though it doesn't show up too well in the pics)... I found something that will work, though I have plans to 'zhuzh it up'. It's not a match to the original, but it gives me a good foundation for the final outcome. We shall see...

Peeled the tape, and I don't hate it. Part of the areas that had the original decal intact peeled away slightly, ironically, but the 'wear pattern' matches up with the original wear, so I think it works. I'm likely going to do a fill on the inner area. More to come...

While rummaging for washers, I found a piece of contemporary bicycle history from Denver. Coincidentally, I'm wearing their shirt right now. Chocolate Spokes was a bike shop in the Whittier/Little Five Points area of downtown Denver. Gregory was the owner, and he not only repaired and sold bicycles, but fabricated them as well.

When I first met Gregory (2013 ish) he had recently finished a build for a trade show/expo. I got a chance to test ride the tricked out road bike, and it was such an incredibly well built machine, I had an ear-to-ear grin plastered on my face for the remainder of the day. One day, I asked if he had any headbadges for sale. He said not really, but that they had 30 or so made up for existing and future builds. I asked If I could purchase 1 for the price of manufactured cost+cost of replacement. Though he found it odd, he agreed, and I procured the badge. This is likely the only loose badge in existence from Chocolate Spokes. I miss that shop and wish it were still open, but unfortunately they closed their doors in Summer of 2020.

Cool story and really cool badge. Sounds like a shop I would have enjoyed visiting.

It really was great. They would get in some cool vintage (for sale) pretty often as well. They also sold fairtrade chocolate (thus the name), and Gregory was known for wearing a bowtie as his signature look (the 'tie in' on the badge). I bought this 24" bare metal Sears there. Wish I had kept it. It was really slick (tank shroud/scoop was solid chrome, not plastic) and rode super smooth.

I painted a purple base color on the front of the frame, then went over the top with a translucent magenta. So when it is in the sun, it will light up pink like the front rim. In the shade (or out of direct sunlight) it returns to a deep purple.

BobbyStillz, do you think we need (or others may want) a separate thread of past/present bike shops we knew about or visited? I am not sure how to relocate this thread to a new location.....Admin help? .....

Sure, I'm down. There probably is one on here somewhere. Was a nice bit of reminiscence as I was working on my build.

Not much time today, so l hit the chainguard graphics with a few coats of clear to seal them down, and prep for the next step. Probably should have gone over the lettering with the new green (initially) to make it the same boldness as the pin, but eh, here we are.

On the green you could have used green glitter. Just blow a little around onto the wet paint. I have a whole bag of green flake, but at the end of a spray, if I want more bling.

It has a flake in it! I will get a better pic of it in the sunlight so it can be seen. My indoor lighting is less than ideal.

Working an antique show this weekend (Thur-Sun) so bike stuff will be here and there. Found these goodies, though, and one of the hood ornaments is begging to be incorporated into my build. However, I am reminded of a Coco Chanel quote,
Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.
