so I tried to take the spring stay out for the caliper bolt. Some may come out (pressed in) this one was part of the bolt. So I cut the bolt ends off and drilled through the center. The caliper I used was a junk one all tweaked but I hammered it fairly straight and everything looks like it will work fine. I have a couple calipers coming in the mail. What I’ll do on the next one is use a fatter spring stay to give it a little more clearance from the mounting bracket and I’ll be more careful drilling out the cut off bolt. Time to

Dang, I'd be half-tempted to just enter the parts bike into the Muscle Bike Build Off! That thing's rad!

Still, looking forward to seeing how you fix up that little Murray!
That bike is a roach. It looks to have started as a 24 inch bike and someone put a 20in rear tire on it. Then Welded in a support for the hand brake.

I think you’re right. I’ve never laced a wheel. I’m thinking this will be the first and second. lol. The rear is pretty rusty

Where in pa are you. I’m just east of Pittsburgh
West of Philadelphia, 30 miles.

Tape the spokes near the rim. Cover the rest with cardboard and paint the wheel together. Or as you said, take it apart.

Good paint plan, Wayne.

@Tintmanpa , to get your white and pink to really pop, you might want to use a bright silver or chrome color over your primer and under your top paint coat. It will help the color come alive and give it some depth.

Back on post #35 I talked about adding an "L" bracket to the leading rear brake caliper pair. This will keep the assembly from rotating. This poor old bike hanging in the shed some 30 years.

I used the original front brake as the lead, you can see the bracket, one each side.
Wow thanks. I’ve seen that on one of my Sears duel rear brake bikes and never though about it I will see about fabing one when I start to assemble

I would be worried by such a large on a single tube bike, but it looks brilliant on a twin tube bike like that :)
