Hey y'all builders, I found a cheap cruiser bike near me. I saw the pictures on a online marketplace and the bike was absolutely hideous... But with potential! Tires and parts seemed like new, but pictures were bad.
The owner got an offer from someone else of 15 bucks but was not letting it go that easy. I did my offer and he said thats alright, come by Saturday afternoon.
And I did! He took it out of the garage and the bike was new. He said he won it at an football game and never cycled it, because he thought riding singlespeed was hard.
I replied and I said: I'm peddling these bad boys up in the hills in Nijverdal and its called Klunking!
Silence commenced... hmm... I gave him the money, thanked him kindly and took this thing home.

And here she is in all her glory 🤮🤣

I first removed the tank plate.

But never give up hope, if you see the details and through the stickers:

Cool retro tires! Grey rims.

Histop coasterbrake hub... not the worst, but I'd rather have the Shimano.

They I started lightweightin' removing them patches and fenders:

Added a brooks saddle.

And it started looking pretty cool. I even like the orange colour at the moment.

I plan to do quite some things:
Add a tougher, set back seatpost.
Lubricate the hub, chain and bottom bracket.
Finished the paint, where the stickers are off at the frontal black section.
Check the tubes and tires.
Different bars.
Remove the 'Holland Cruiser' sticker on the downtube without damaging the paint.

So what do you think? Pretty neat so far right!

Yep it looks good! A good set of bars might need a new stem also.

I would paint it all black, put the tank panel back in with this decal on both sides:

But that's just me.
Wow, cool decal! Where did it came from?
I cycle hard! But I'm not really a destroyer, my sticker would say: Build, Klunk, Mechanical Sympathy
Thanks for your input, very cool!

Yeah, that was a great score! I agree on better bars but for the money that's a pretty trick klunk!
Better bars definitely! Thanks Pondo!

A few pictures during the day:

The plate screws were stuck, so had to drill them out.

I'm slowly removing the downtube sticker that says: Holland Cruiser.

Looking for BMX / Motocross bars, maybe add a few blue anodized parts. We will see where this build takes me. In the end most certainly on local singletracks!

I was wondering; With this orange colour I intend to keep, are anodized parts like a stem, a seatpost or a chainring a nice addition?
I have the option to buy some NOS red or blue anodized parts. I'm thinking blue would fit the orange paint:

Blue goes good with orange

Very nice! I'm still considering it.

Bars came in! I searched for some second hand bars, but couldnt find any in my area.
So I have found a moped shop that sells bars for a pretty neat price!

The bottom one is one I used before, it is 86 centimetres wide stock!

These.

But I am probably going to use this beaut:

Look at those angles!

Shall I fabricate my own stem?

22.2mm

And I managed to remove all stickers from the frame:

Slingshot stem might be an ideal match

Yes indeed!

I can't find a second hand one so I'll try and braze one.

Ingredients:

1000035698.jpg

1000035704.jpg

I took optimus his mask off!

Pretty cool idea right?

Now I gotta scramble ideas and parts.
In what position am I brazing this? 90 degree angle? (Forward) or with a little upslope like the picture?

I like to try this idea, I'm all excited!

This is cool! Can’t wait to see what you come up with. 👍

The cover is not made of steel, zinc maybe?

I'll have to place it before brazing and don't know if it will stand the heat.

Could it be wrapped in a wet cloth to keep it cool?
Good idea. Maybe, or I'll just leave it off.
Or, cut it and fit afterwards.

I'll think about it.

In the meantime:

Tomorrow I'll put this stem shaft in the lathe and turn it from 22,2 to 21mm, so it fits inside the seatpost.
This type of seatpost bend near the seatclamp and I wanted it stronger there.

I could build a CrMo version like before, but I wanted the chrome plating and that is ridiculously expensive here. So this is, a neat little tryout!

Hi guys!

I found a great used Brooks C17 'carved' seat for this machine!

And managed to prepare and braze the first connection of the stem. I will file/sand the brazed connection afterwards.
I am still practicing the brazing/soldering, so feel free to comment on that.

I might use these for the bars. I'll have to check if the rod from the bar fits through the gap (of this clamp) and if it fits when brazed.

BSA Fork?
It came off of a 'Philips' bicycle from the 60's? I got it out of the trash.
Unfortunately I couldn't keep the frame.

In the meanwhile I am thinking about the chainring: Will I utilize the power disc or use the stock 44t sprocket?
