Tyres arrived this morning. This will set the theme for my big ripper build

You inspired me. I just bought a bendix 2 speed on eBay. Was a reasonable price and I always wanted one. Will likely end up making a showing in the ORBO. Although I have a few other hubs to choose from.View attachment 284596
This arrived today.

I would love to find a wide S7 tire for it, but when I use it will probably hang the hoop on the wall. The 26" S7 tires widest is 1.75".

The S7s that came on my 67 Typhoon went with a ladies rollfast I sold to a gal up the street back in 2016...

That old typhoon would make a nice Bomber too... hmmm...

I'd lace up a rim that would have more selection of tires. 26 or 27.5, maybe 29 if the frame could handle it. But I would also paint the bands orange and make up some kind of story about a prototype hub. :21:

Hmmm.

It makes you wonder if that's where rumors of the three speed green band kickback hub came from. 🤔

🤣

There was a batch of those hubs that went out orange by mistake, but they got them all back. Except for one, it's out there somewhere, like the Bullet Mustang. Worth a fortune.:bigboss:

😎 I have to wonder what the difference from the other three was.

Red and yellow, I've read the difference is the brakes. I've found a couple others.

Red has camfered faces on the outer edges.

Finish is a little different.

And the way the left spoke plate is pressed on. Knurl width on the yellow.

From what I understand, the red hub is geared higher than the yellow.

I had read they were both 1 to 1.67 on the low gear. Dunno for fact.

I will be servicing both and look to see if I can confirm same or not.

They both work. And switch between hi and low easily enuff.

This Red one is tight and probably needs lube and adjustment. Yellow seems to have had more miles on it and feels a little looser. So grease on the shoes will be needed.

I did a little research and the red and yellow hubs are geared the same with a low gear and a 1:1. The difference is the type of brake used. Red hubs are early 60s, yellow late 60s. It's the blue hubs that have an overdrive, I always thought it was the red.

I have a couple of bikes with kick back hubs and they're ok. I just don't like how they shift every time you brake. It puts me in the wrong gear a lot here on these hilly roads but I think they would be great in more level terrain.

My BMX as a teen was a coaster mag on my schwinn, so I've always been partial to coasters, add an extra gear and its a whole new game for me.

Since ive ridden them so often now, I love the kickback hubs for a hi lo gear with no cables.

After a trip out on a trail when I got my first kickback, I quickly got used to the gear change when trying to slow just a bit. It becomes second nature after awhile.

Hence a lot of klunking when riding areas that requires braking often. Like a downhill slolam. I discovered an old one below the showgirl trail, that hadn't been used for years. Was fun, i made three runs on it, just to get the ET down. It had a push'em up trail right next to it. Brake, turn, klunk... repeat till at the bottom.

I just need to ride mine more and get used to it. 👍

Every time I enter one, it's not something I love, and there's no motivation to finish. However, I love ORBO, and have pretty much everything to finish my 94 Norco Rampage. View attachment 283969View attachment 283968
Is there a way I can vote "probably shouldn't, but maybe"?
That's a really cool frame, you should definitely throw that thing together. Just assemble and ride, done.

Considering this Worksman as a klunker build. My main motivation is to contribute content to this site, but I also want to have a bike that I would be able to sell when finished. Not worried about turning a profit.
ORBO potential

If I was building it I would keep the frame, forks, bars and stem. Everything else I would use leftover mountain bike parts, nothing fancy. It would need caliper brakes though.

That '30s double wishbone frame is cool as all get out! Freshen up the original patina, add new parts, wow! So much potential.

I'm debating which way to go with this one. I'd really like to run drum brakes. The original plan was to build up some wheels with my Sturmey Archer 3speed drum hubs that were from a tandem. They are narrow and wouldn't require re-spacing the frame. I would use a quadrant shifter on the frame. This way could be done skip tooth. But I also like the idea of having derailleurs. I have a set of Union drum hubs that I could use for that. I'll use a Brooks either way, B66 or B72. Longhorns or old MX bars. TA cranks perhaps. Or I could do a coaster brake build, which I also like. Too many options, any and all opinions encouraged. :bigboss:

Same ratio on yellow and red, it was the blue hub had the different setup, normal and 1.5 higher instead of a low and normal gearing. It was mainly for 20" wheels.

I think I have some flip up pedals from a folder... I wonder if I can get a laid back burrito to also be able to conform to a crouching forward position???

So what does OR and SW stand for?

I dug out some rims that almost match and other parts for the upcoming build off. A few new things like hubs and a 7 speed cluster showed up.

I may have enough leftover stuff for a minivelo style offroad build as a third entry.
