This will be a step thru frame bike built on a gravel bike theme, but not with drop bars, it'll be along the lines of a klunker but with skinnier tires. So a mix of gravel and klunker. I originally though this was a cheap frame the wife bought, but as I cleaned it up found it was decent Japanese...

Here in the Philippines it doesn't start til 1pm today, but ends 13 hours later.

Everyone is having fun with it. It's good it will get used by a few or more people.

Here's a 1960 Deluxe Tornado. It's the twin bar frame but about the same dimensions as the straightbar frame.

Upon further thought, I added a front brake just in case the chain comes off. I also added the rack back on since I should have plenty of room in the bike bag. I'm headed to a farm tomorrow to do some riding on this bike.

The Autocycle was only made until 1952. With your chain wheel, I think it's a Tornado. Here's a 58 Tornado:

Back then bikes were branded by department stores and hardware stores, like Sears, Penneys, and Montgomery Wards and Firestone to name a few. Gambles hardware also. Sometimes they had a brand name, like Sears had J C Higgins, Penneys had Foremost and Montgomery Wards also had names for bikes...

The Flying Star didn't have a bar, so I think the frame is strong enough without it, but I would put a bar in there just for looks. It would have to be shaped to fit, then get welded or brazed in. I'd have a shop do that, but it might be costly. I'm still on the hunt for a frame like that over...

It looks like your original chain wheel is 44 teeth, so one less on that new 43 tooth chain wheel will make it just slightly easier to pedal. The rear cog is probably 18, so you will go from 64 GI to 63 GI, hardly noticeable. You may not have to take a link from the chain if you can slide the...

That frame with no cantilevers is a Flying Star. That's the only frame of that style without the cantilevers. Most Schwinn middleweight frames had cantilevers. They weren't cut off as the seat stays look factory where they end. The 58 catalog isn't all there, but here's a 56 illustration:

A lot don't like them, I don't know why. I find them to be a better brake than the usual sidepull. The V brake is much stronger.

Frankenscoot has a new home. My neice, who returned my Dahon really liked it and since I never use it, she can have fun with it.

And just for reference, 26 x 3" tires will fit the Dyno frame.

8G is 1958 by my list. The 58 price list doesn't show an Autocycle. Can we see more of the bike?

I count my wife's purses. If I have more bikes than purses then it's too many. I've got only 14 bikes now so I have room for more.:thumbsup:

The headbadge does look like it wasn't the original, it's too big. Possibly they only had one size headbadge so that's how they went on the smaller frames. The rivets look good, no signs of damage from being removed and re- riveted. I looked at Armstrong bike 60's pics and they all have a round...

I looked and sure enough, they make a carrying bag for these folders. Under ten bucks, but had to be shipped from China.

After changing out the heavier cranks and removing the handbrakes, it's only 26 lbs.
