    SPACELINER PITMASTER SPECIAL

SPACELINER PITMASTER SPECIAL Spaceliner, smoked low and slow with a touch of hot rod rub. THE RECIPE A mix of mid-sixties Spaceliner styling cues, a long wheel base (64"), low seat position (24"), shallow head tube angle (50.5°), big/little wheel combination, ten speed indexed trigger shifter...

Thanks. Sorry for the delay in responding. Regarding being squirrelly... the frame seems to have a *ton* of flex. At first I thought it might be the extended sissy bar but, this is basically the same modification I made in the Sportmaster build and there isn’t the same ride feel with that one...

A vote about extending the MBBO/BMXBO deadline

Thanks for stepping in @CRASH. I voted for the March 1st deadline but either extension is fine with me. This past year has been so weird and getting parts has been an issue. I lean toward getting as many builds across the finish line as possible.

    Apollo Racer

Took a picture of the Apollo and Sportmaster together that I like. I have it in the build thread. Thought I'd throw it here and on the Sportmaster finished build page too.

    Apollo Racer

Another scrub clean, tire change, longer crank swap, reflector housing and, sissy bar lengthen build in the books. I've built a couple scratch built bikes with some questionable geometry in the past. Having said that, this is the most squirrely riding bike of any I've ever been on. Still like...

Images of the finished assembled bike are ready to go. I've had a front whitewall ordered since the middle of November. Eventually that will be swapped out... if and when it arrives. With the Holidays coming up and, the build deadline only a couple weeks after that, I wasn't sure I'd be able to...

    Apollo Racer

Thanks for the replies! I gave it another try. While better than the previous it's still not mounted quite as nice as I'd like. @Vroom I even tried stepping in the tire sidewall this time! It did seem to help when I tried this without any kind of lubricant on the bead. I think the tire may...

Tire Mounting Advice? I'm having trouble mounting a rear tire. A lot of trouble! The rear tire and rim on my other MBBO build are exactly the same sizes and the tire bead set without my even thinking about it. For some reason I keep hitting a wall on this one. Just can't get the tire bead to...

    Scrapyard Mule 2.0

Thank you. I agree regarding the look of the original version. Well, except for those monster front dropouts anyway! From the start I really wanted to use this as a testbed to sort out riding position and suspension ideas I wasn't confident in. I plan to hopefully use the lessons learned in...

My only thinking with the adjustable rake was to find the best angle for handling. But, that is an interesting thought.

    Apollo Racer

Thanks all! @Bike from the Dead... I was able to get the housing shiny by sanding and then polishing the sheet metal. Started by grinding / filing the welds and then used progressively finer grades of paper. This was finished pretty rough because I knew most would be hidden by the seat. I only...

I'm pretty sure this is a replacement seat for this bike. The curve design doesn't really match the frame and the rear of the seat looks a little thin to me. Especially compared to the bread loaf design of the original. Tried to blend the styles between the frame and seat with the addition of a...

Not too much to reassembling everything. New whitewalls on order.

    Scrapyard Mule 2.0

Back to the Drawing Board This design ended up being the winner. I'm pretty sure any wheel movement at this point can be attributed to play in the linkage attachments. On a less Frankenstein of a build application I'll be able to address that. I ended up strengthening the top linkage by making...

    Scrapyard Mule 2.0

Better But... Still too much front wheel movement side to side while turning. First modification added pivot levers at the top of the fork legs. Getting better but still not good enough. Next design tried to strengthen the linkage and provide stronger upper pivot points. Thought I had an...

    Scrapyard Mule 2.0

Trouble Shooting The original set-up worked but had issues. When turning, the front wheel would lean toward the opposite side of the turn direction. First thought was that the lever wasn't mounted ridged enough to the frame and was allowing the linkage to shift. Others problems with the lever...

    Scrapyard Mule 2.0

Front Suspension Satisfied with the seat / crank / rake / trail, etc. it was time to address the front fork and dropouts. I wanted to add some type of suspension. The design for this came from researching different custom motorcycle designs. The general idea is that a lever that connects the...

    Scrapyard Mule 2.0

Seat Adjustment Some of the designs that I'm using this as a test bed for look better with a seat position a little higher and more forward. This is a seat position adapter made from a handlebar extension. Tried to keep the distance from the middle of the seat to the crank center the...
