    Scrapyard Mule 2.0

Second Bottom Bracket Position Adjustment Seemed that the 4 inch stretch forward was a little too much. Also needed more room between the bottom bracket and head tube. Moved the BB down an inch and back an inch. Before Repositioning After Repositioning The original handlebars...

    Scrapyard Mule 2.0

Testing Head Tube Angle and Trail I ran a bunch of ride tests changing the head tube angle and trail. Don't understand why but, the ride was most stable with a negative trail. Maybe because of the lower head tube height, close to the height of the front axle? I tired keeping the head tube at...

    Scrapyard Mule 2.0

Adjustable Head Tube Angle (continued) The bottom bracket needed to be repositioned also. Distance was a little too close between the seat and crank. Moved the BB 4" forward before adding the head tube adjustment bolt plate. Modified the front dropouts to allow adjustment up and...

    Scrapyard Mule 2.0

Adjustable Head Tube Angle The handling I ended up with originally was a disappointment. The front dropouts gave me some room to experiment but I wanted a way to adjust the head tube angle too.

    Scrapyard Mule 2.0

Scrapyard Mule This a continuation of modifications to the build I had in last summer's Build Off. I originally had every intention of posting documentation of how this went along, as it went along, but time got away from me. With all the images I had I figured I'd go ahead and post after the...

    Apollo Racer

Quick update on the sissy bar extension. I added 3-1/2" to the length. Connection detail after cleanup. Here's a detail of an end after the citric acid bath. The chrome was pitted pretty bad, understandable that it had been painted. End after polish. Still pitted but I prefer this...

    Apollo Racer

The Apollo kind of reminds me of a flipped girl's frame... in a good way. Trick to the blown out photo / lack of floor space is to have enough vertical space just outside the image area to pile everything up into.

    Sportmaster

Started with a bike in pretty good condition to begin with. Just gave it a good scrubbing, new seat, reflector and a few minor modifications to make it comfortable to ride. See the build thread here. Starting point.

    Sportmaster

Thanks. Glad I took that route instead of a complete overhaul / update. I agree, that was all it needed and anything more would have probably ruined it.

    Sportmaster

Got the images of the assembled bike finished up. Pretty happy with the build results. Nothing fancy just a nice, simple comfortable ride. Rolls real nice on the high pressure tires.

Never tried oxalic acid so I can't say which is better. Citric acid is what I heard of first and it's always worked for me. I should probably give oxalic acid a try at some point though.

    Apollo Racer

And speaking of citric acid baths... here's some of the chrome before and afters. Everything was put into a mixture of half a teaspoon of citric acid per cup of water after a quick clean up with soap and water. Hard to say exactly how long. I just kind of kept an eye on it, as the rust started...

    Apollo Racer

An SLR is nice. I have a Nikon d610 that I've had for seven or eight years. Only problem is that sometimes I spend more time setting up shots, shooting and post processing images than I do working on the bike! After an initial clean up with soap and water I tried a citric acid bath to remove...

    Apollo Racer

It is a pretty cool and unique design. Noodly... thats a good description. I took it for a short ride before taking it apart. The rear axle needed to be tightened and just assumed that was what I was feeling. I'll have to make sure I avoid any pot-holes once its finished!

    Apollo Racer

Calling this a "Racer" is a bit of a stretch. I wouldn't take it over 40mph ;), especially with that fork! Looking more closely at the frame it does look like the bean counters at the time won out (see the images below). I'd think more of an I-beam profile to the sides and a stamped lip or ridge...

    Sportmaster

Seems like the rear reflectors are always missing from these old muscle bikes. Made a new one using a Lowes trailer reflector. Now that was the long way around to end up with a jar lid! Adding a tab and mounting to the seat.

    Apollo Racer

First things first... a little pressure applied to the fork with a pipe bender. Looking at the fork closely I didn't see any serious cracks to the forks themselves, just the paint. They straightened out "okay" and seem to be good to go. Something I'll need to keep aware of. Side view with...

    Apollo Racer

Recently came across this and couldn't resist. Plan is to do the same as in my Sportmaster build, some cleanup and minor modifications to make it ridable. Not sure on the year. If I were to guess I'd say early seventies, maybe seventy one? Looks like the incorrect seat but the one that's on...
