    High end road bike

I rode race bikes in the early 70's and a lot of bikes had all bolt on cable guides. At that time it was fairly common to see drilled out bottom brackets. Guys would drill hundreds of holes in their aluminum front sprockets. The rear chain guide at the bottom bracket is redirecting the cable...

    The Breeze

Your build is going real well. I'm not a fan of rear mounted track style dropouts. I own one bike with rear dropouts and they are a major pain when dismounting the wheel. But your bike turned out really nice. Good work.

    Murray Drag star bike

I love wheelie bar equipped bicycles. It just says something is different here when riding a wheelie bar equipped bicycle. This bike has it all, top bar stick shifter, really cool front sprocket, tail light equipped wheelie bar, front headlight and banana seat. The only thing missing is a...

    ROSS APOLLO 5 SPEED

I really like the"Hurst" shifter. I've never seen such a nice large spoke protector pie plate with a red detail. Same goes for the front sprocket and chain guard. These are really cool items. The ultimate though is the wheelie bar. I need one. Our local BMX riding club, 6061, here in...

    Nondestructive testing of aluminum.

I went through a steel is real phase and looked at all the problems with aluminum and carbon fiber. I have broken two steel frames both made by Worksman. Both breaks were on the seat post tube. One was very poor brazing on the bottom bracket lug fitting for the seat post tube and the other...

    29'er Electra build.

I raced against Tom Ritchey and all the other Bay Area crowd in the late 70's and early 80's here in Northern California. Bikes were called Klunkers, not mountain bikes though that soon changed. There were lots of 3 speed mostly Sturmey Archer AW hubs in use at the races. Any bike without a...

    Widowmaker. 1930 Colson Flyer motorbike…..Klunkers.

Tarek is in the middle of a mind meld on the humans he controls. Love your conceptualization for this frame. That will be a sharp looking bicycle. Amazing that bicycle standards were the same then as now on many things. Nowadays there are so many orphaned and little used bicycle standards...

What have you been riding lately?

This bike is so triangulated. GT on steroids.

    What's your "go-to" bike?

Great picture of actual hauling the groceries. Good looking bicycle. Just the right amount of visual conflict to keep the thieves away. I love one piece crank bicycles that have rust and scratches for going to the market. I use good quality locks on a clunky looking bicycle and have not lost...

    Firestone Cruiser Klunker Build

Great looking bike. I really like Girvin forks and the combo of your good paint job, and a great looking frame make for a sharp looking bike

    Headtube rust.

I would think the bearings are rusted solid to the cup and the fork race and have overcome the friction fit of the upper cup to the head tube. You may need a new headset and I think Matti is right about possibly needing a shim. A new cup might fit tight but if this thing has been ridden a lot...

What do you bust out when you have a need for speed?

Bikes are ruled by fashion trends and I'm tired of the flat black look. Time for a more colorful fashion.

    TWOJS FRESH FINDS

Never seen one bent so badly. I personally would consult with a welder/steel person as to how mild steel will react to bending this back. I'm prone to cold bending it back into position. Your rear wheel had a pie plate so I'm surprised the derailleur got caught in the spokes. Varsities will...

Schwinn Varsity repaint and minor modifications

Thanks Matti, I've decided to see if I can get the decal maker to make some curved decals for the Velocity Chukar rims. I found my original patterns for the paint job I did on the original rims. This has been a fun, but slow, process and am loving the ride again.

It's hard not to be a collector. Good job on this bike. Very usable now.

    Love those graphics!!!

    Roaring 20s Winged Wheel Archbar

That's an interesting front fork setup for the axle. A hole on one dropout and the usual slot on the other dropout. How do you get the axle into the hole without binding when installing or taking off the wheel?

Schwinn Varsity repaint and minor modifications

Saddle is a noseless saddle called the Spiderflex. It is the best saddle I have ever ridden. Not talking about recumbent seats which are on another plane of comfort totally. Noseless saddles in general take some getting used to if you decide to try one.

What do you bust out when you have a need for speed?

Really nice pair of steel race bikes from back in the day. I raced a Schwinn 1971 Schwinn Paramount which was very similar to the Colnago. Sew ups, Campagnolo cranks and derailleurs. I didn't like the Campy sidepulls of the era and Schwinn gave you the option of buying Weinmann centerpulls so...
