    Paint challenge

Some upgrades. New tires from a folder I upgraded for the wife. I didn't like the cheap hubs on the new wheels so I ordered a set of hubs to match, before I counted the spoke holes. There's only 32! So I'll make these work afterall and have a spare set of gold hubs. Layback seatpost because the...

    Paint challenge

My sis in law wants her bike redone and painted like this: I'll give it a try. I disassembled her bike and ordered some parts that will match up to these green and yellow colors. A wheelset, pedals and handgrips. These have red hubs so they are out along with the pedals and grips. The frame...

The Violet One, and the Black One

So far so good. The BB and cranks fit and I've got the chain attached already. I spun the wheel and 84 is a high gear. The 27.2 seatpost is due today. That just leaves brakes.

The Violet One, and the Black One

I tapped the dent out using a piece of water pipe and pressed in the new headset, 34mm. I've never used this kind of headset but it went together easily. I used most of my spacers and didn't have to trim the fork. I need the bars high so it works for me. The BB and crankset is due to arrive...

The Violet One, and the Black One

I had 20 dollars worth of parts show up at the same time. The spacers came with a headset but that wasn't shown on the ad. So I have an extra headset, one where the bearings sit inside the headtube. I'm using the external kind with sealed bearings on this bike.

    Schwinn cycle truck

Welcome aboard! I would sure like to find a cycle truck, in any condition. If you need a little more room, you can rotate the seat collar forward to get the seat to set back a couple inches. I see you have a bell but is that a big horn on the handlebars?

The Violet One, and the Black One

My favorite bike, Chrome Molly had the same problem, a dent in the head tube. I used a solid 5/8ths bar and gently tapped out the dent. This one isn't as bad so I think it will be fine when I work on it tomorrow.

The Violet One, and the Black One

My birthday bike showed up finally. The headtube has a dent and there are a few dings and scratches but nothing that can't be fixed. I was going to make this a 700C bike, but I think the 26" wheels and whitewall 1.50 smoothies will work fine. When this is done, I'll start on the black frame...

    Bf goodrich

Welcome aboard! That bike was made by Schwinn for BF Goodrich, in 1947 going by the "C" at the beginning of the 5 digit serial number.

The 26" fork isn't the one shown, but it is long enough to use as if it didn't have threads and maybe trim them off as the head tube is less than 5".

    TnT

I tried a threaded fork but can't find a 34mm headset that is made for a threaded fork. My new unthreaded fork arrived yesterday. It's as heavy as the whole frame. I'll take both the frame and fork to the bike shop to be sure I have the right headset, although a 34mm looks right. I gave the...

    Another one gone!

This BMX is going with us on a 2 hour road trip to a new home.

This is a new frame I just bought on sale cheap. It's advertised as a 700C frame, but I tried my 26" Sram 2 speed on it along with a big crankset to see how it looked. So this is how it will be. I hope to keep it light and fast. It's a 22 inch frame so it will fit me better a little lower to the...

    Barn fresh Raleigh Super Course

What is on there now are 27", with the pads adjusted as low as they go. The 700C rim radius is 4mm less so the pads may not contact the 700C rim well enough.

    28 dollar cromoly frame?

The delivery came while the wife was out spending money! So it will be stored away until the purple one shows up. The frame looks as good as the ad picture. The welds look good. The inner diameter of the headtube is 35mm. I'll have to write that down and also measure the fork tube to make sure...

    Barn fresh Raleigh Super Course

That's what I did with my Mixte build, 700c now, but was made for 27". "Gravelina"

I notice your brake pads are set at the lowest point, a 700C rim is slightly smaller than the 27 inch, so you may have to change out the brakes also.

    28 dollar cromoly frame?

Good info! They had one more, in purple and fork included for 6 bucks more so I ordered it too. I can check to see when the delivery happens, so I can send the wife out to get her hair or nails done or something. :dance2: I've only worked with standard headsets, so this will be something new...

    28 dollar cromoly frame?

I was watching the new frames on sale and this 700c one just came up for 28 bucks shipped. It says it's chromoly but just plain steel would be a bargain also. I ordered it right away. Is there a way to verify metal is chromoly vs steel?

    Hawthorne ID

That's a 1951 Hawthorne, made by Snyder. Mongomery Wards didn't make the Hawthorne bikes. Snyder also made Rollfast bikes, same frame. They used a reverse serial number so the 15 is 51. The springer is probably aftermarket, it isn't Snyder. Looks like you got a good deal.
