  1. Bike from the Dead

    Step-Thru Frame and Paint Concerns

I'll swing by a few places after I check out the BMX Vintage National Show & Swap tomorrow. I wanted to look at some glitter paint and some anodizing paint anyway, so this would be a good time to look at Bondo and primer too. I'll browse around on YouTube and see what's out there. I was just...

    Step-Thru Frame and Paint Concerns

I think for the bent tensioner, I'll just try @idiotboy's suggestion. I'll definitely soak them in PB Blaster for a while, though. Hitting them with the sandblaster might help as well. I'll probably add some new bolts or tensioners if all goes well. Yeah, my dad has a sandblaster at his shop I...

What have you been riding lately?

Took my 1950 Schwinn step-thru klunker, Belle, on a short test ride this morning after tuning the rear wheel earlier this week. I'm not sure if I've sorted out the bugs yet or not, but at least the bike's moving again.

    Step-Thru Frame and Paint Concerns

Good idea. That may be the best way to take care of that part.

    Step-Thru Frame and Paint Concerns

I really want to enter this prewar Monark into the STBO, but I don't know if I'll be able to paint it the way I want. For starters, the frame is pretty rusty. It's not bad enough that I can't ride it, but if I want to strip it down and repaint it, I'll either need to use a good filler primer...

    STBO Stirrup: the Hornets' Nest

Finally finished cleaning up the detached garage last night. Here's what it looked like before: And here's what it looks like now: I'll move these cranks with chainrings to the pegboard that Stirrup's sitting on once I start working on that bike.

STBO Fashionably Late. (Temp. Name for now).

Twin bars are always fun! Can't wait to check out the stance on that ol' girl!
  8. Bike from the Dead

    STBO Little lady

Tiny human's going to have big fun on that tiny bike! Yeah, maybe it won't be the original red, but I bet she'll love that Schwinn even more since she got to pick the colors. Can't wait to see the end result!
  9. Bike from the Dead

    Midnight Flash

That Huffy is WILD! I'm not even sure where to begin on this bike! That looks AMAZING!
  10. Bike from the Dead

    STBO Stirrup: the Hornets' Nest

Ha, thanks Matti! Not sure this Western Flyer will have hub shiners again, but I may consider putting them back on. Thanks! Ha, I wish! I've got a few parts and one other bike on a pegboard or rack of sorts, and other small parts in plastic drawers in my workspace out in the detached garage...

    STBO BBC

Dang, I'd be half-tempted to just enter the parts bike into the Muscle Bike Build Off! That thing's rad! Still, looking forward to seeing how you fix up that little Murray!
  12. Bike from the Dead

    STBO Stirrup: the Hornets' Nest

The next month, March 2020, I began disassembly of this old Murray, and found even more dirt dauber nests than what I'd seen when I pulled it out of the shed earlier. As soon as I took apart everything, I knocked out the dirt dauber nests and washed all the parts. After that, I placed...

    STBO Stirrup: the Hornets' Nest

So what's the story on this bike? Well, back in February 2020, not long after my Grandad (Dad's and my aunt Suzanne's dad) passed away, we were going through his stuff. They told me about an old bike my Aunt Suzanne had that was sitting in one of Grandad's sheds, and that I was free to have it...

    STBO Stirrup: the Hornets' Nest

I'll be building my Aunt Suzanne's Murray-built Western Flyer Sonic Flyer for the Step-Thru Build Off. I've had it sitting on this pegboard for over 4 years now, and I think it's time to finally stop stalling on this bike and actually get it done.
  15. Bike from the Dead

    Colorful Colorflow

Thanks! That's right, I remember you building one earlier. I didn't look too hard for a serial number, but I didn't see one on either the head tube or the dropouts like I normally do on these later Schwinns. Next time I run by my storage unit, I'll take a closer look and see if I can find...

    Colorful Colorflow

Thanks Matti! Yeah, the blue fork isn't bad, but it sticks out too much for my tastes. I want the only color to be on the frame, at least for now. Thank you! I can't wait to fix it up and ride it around town. I might even take it to a skate park and practice "carving the bowl" too!
  17. Bike from the Dead

    Colorful Colorflow

    Awesome, thanks!

No, I have an older bladed fork that'd match the frame, but that's not the look I'm going for. I'm going to either paint or powder coat the fork chrome.
