    Uncle Dave’s Education Donation

I like the shifter’s integrated into the brake levers. I have 3 bikes that I’ve put them on. A small mount of goop or shogoo. You can remove them by inserting a small screwdriver or spoke between the bars and grips.

AMF headset bearing cup removal problem

You’re not using enough force and too small a hammer. Me, I don’t care what my bikes look like, their rats, so I would use a torch and jury rig up a bearing puller using a bunch of clamps to hold the frame and piece to press on.

    Grease

I go to the hardware store and buy a tub of trailer axle bearing grease. No Walmart here, which is always the cheapest place to buy automotive fluids.

Welding Chromoly Frame With Flux Core

I used stick, flux core wire without gas and a few brazed joints on this hack bike frame. Mild steel. It’s harder to do than you think. Before jumping in on your project I would take two or three old mild steel frames, cut off the rear triangles and swap them. One should be a woman’s frame and...

any one put 3" tire on a 4" wide rims? pics?

I’ve used nylon electrical type tie downs to get tires to seat. They work really well on stubborn glue on track type tires.

    1962 Schwinn Typhoon Upgrade

That’s a better brake mount jig than what I came up with.

    Bent triangle

I’ve used hardwood blocks on the cement basement floor to keep the bent part elevated, a 4x4 placed under a basement beam, a horseshoe shaped hardwood block to clear areas that aren’t bent and a small hydraulic jack to press the frame back. Sometimes you have to bend it a little in the opposite...

    28 dollar cromoly frame?

Try and dimple the chain stays for a wider tire with a tool like this one on the bottom. If it’s chromoly you won’t be able to dent it. Mild steel will dimple.

    STBO Mixte Feelings

The BB grease just might be dried out, or missing. Try penetrating oil. That should do it, put the evaporated volatiles back in the grease. You can repack it later and the grease will be easier to remove. I was given two Raleigh bikes and neither one of them had grease anywhere, including the...

    Anybody else have a motorcycle?

Yeah, the triumph is fun to ride. Problem is it’s magneto fired so you have to kick start it hard and it’s very temperamental. Every time I ride it I have to order parts and fix it. The 230 has electric start and so far it’s reliable, except for me crashing it and breaking off the front brake...

    Fall is here.

Worst car wreck I ever saw was on 17. I saw another bad one but only two were dead, one in each car. The Canadian wreck had 5 dead in one convertible.

    Fall is here.

I’ll put in a good word for you to Mother Nature. 10C a few days ago, today 28C, but the sensitive plants and unhealthy trees couldn’t take it. They’re dead, dying or flaming. The tops of the tall hills in Northern Ontario, along Highway 17, west of Sault Ste. Marie are flaming.

    Fall is here.

The leaves are turning, the wintergreen is dead and 50% of the bracken ferns are dead. That cold snap a few as ago put the plants in fall mode.

TRADITIONAL In the “Nick of Time Procrastination Maggot”

I’m scared to ride the procrastination maggot as it’s so high, has no brakes and is fixed gear. I made it into a wall hanger.

TRADITIONAL In the “Nick of Time Procrastination Maggot”

1957 TR6C. It belonged to my buddy in 1963 in high school. He bought it from an airman at the local SAC base when he was shipped out. I went everywhere with him on the back of it. We crashed it on the local twisty narrow death highway. I still have the scars. I broke an old linen helmet as I...
