TRADITIONAL In the “Nick of Time Procrastination Maggot”

Got most of the 3 layers of paint off. Good enough-perfect. It’s got wipe on etching primer on it. It has to dry until tomorrow. First nice day I’ll paint it. I won’t bother putting up my spray booth, I’ll shoot it in the open. I’m thinking blue, which was the original color. Or maybe satin black.

TRADITIONAL In the “Nick of Time Procrastination Maggot”

Yeah I took it all apart as the grease was like a combo of bees wax and semi dried epoxy. The crank was pretty sticky and almost stuck. I really didn’t want to disassemble it but it’s not that hard to do. It’s easier to sand the frame with the seat stays removed. So, I reluctantly took it apart...

TRADITIONAL In the “Nick of Time Procrastination Maggot”

I can’t find the handlebars I want to use. I might have to use these. I’m soaking parts, busting rust. The mystery frame. It’s English, it has a Bayless Wiley BB, cranks are stamped Made in England and I think it’s a Willam’s chainring but there is no Williams trademark stamp on it. It’s a...

TRADITIONAL In the “Nick of Time Procrastination Maggot”

The pedals are old Raleigh 501 units. They used to be inexpensive, now they’re not. I have another set on an old BSA bicycle. I don’t remember when I got them. Like I said, I found them in my junk. One had no bearings, the dust caps were in another pile of my junk. The dust caps were probably...

TRADITIONAL In the “Nick of Time Procrastination Maggot”

I’m trying to make a faux head clip type old fashioned headset. It’s raining and cold so I spent a few hours in my shop welding, grinding and filling. It’s not done yet. So much filling that my fingers had a spasm and seized up. I had to quit for the day as my fingers were about as useful as toes.

How the heck did you find this, let alone remember it? I didn’t even remember posting these.

TRADITIONAL In the “Nick of Time Procrastination Maggot”

Those are faux wood rims I made. Their aluminum. They’re covered in flexible epoxy and stained. I don’t recall exactly how I made them. I think I used many strips of brown paper that were soaked in flexible marine epoxy. Then I used epoxy wood, stained them and covered them with more flexible...

TRADITIONAL In the “Nick of Time Procrastination Maggot”

I found some pedals in my junk and just rebuilt them. I have found some parts. I still have to dig through my junk to find tubes and tires (up overhead somewhere in my rafter shelves). I might have old track bars. I have a vintage celluloid covered mustache bar that I could use if I can’t find...

    Tips n Trix

Install grease zerks in pedals. All steel vintage pedals. I installed grease zerks in the dust caps of vintage all steel pedals and then cleaned the races and bearings. Then greased them and then assembled. Zerks are from Tractor Supply.

Will a motorcycle fender fit over 26x4 fat bike tires?

It will look bad if the radius is off.

    The ThundrrrFleet

Ever try and join the Procrastinator’s Club? I did, back in the 1970. I still haven’t gotten my card. They said they hadn’t got around to it yet.

Doesn’t fit, chain stays too close to the tire. Keeping the chain stays attached to the BB and keeping the rear triangle in its original place. Sometimes you have to use a sledge hammer to dent or bow the stays with the 2x2 square tubing. Thirty eight mm tires now fit this old road bike frame.

Got the BB installed today. The non drive side race was kaput from cross threading so I chased them.

    Tips n Trix

This is a good idea. I ran into this in 1962 when a close mechanical genius friend rebuilt a ford 390 police interceptor engine. He wasn’t old enough to drive yet. His dad had a 1957 Fairlane and the engine died. He convinced his dad that he could put an engine in it. He used egg cartons to keep...
