    (MBBO #5 Class 1) 1968? Columbia Playbike

1966 (as it turns out) Columbia Playbike Completion First off: Thank you for all the help and encouragement. Good learning. Second, this bike is as they say in the car field, is a ten footer. Lots of scratches and imperfections. I brought it back to as close to stock as the budget would...

    (MBBO #5 Class 1) 1968? Columbia Playbike

Got a chain and mocked it up with a seat I had. It's a fairly short frame because this seat has the rear holes positioned quite forward. I will swap on a solo polo I have after seeing that photo. Got the front rim back from the chrome shop - that will go on next. If I have time I might swap...

    (MBBO#5 Class 1) 1971 AMF Aerobee. *DONE*

I've been using something called Evapo-Rust which works quite well if you are patient. How does this compare to Oxalic Acid? Let me guess: its the same but I've been paying 10x for a fancy name and a cool bucket that I toss after dumping it all into a Rubbermaid bin...... That would totally be me.

    (MBBO#5 Class 1) - Schwinn Sting-Ray Fastback! ///" PUT A FORK IN IT. ITS DONE"///

Did you use Rustoleum for all 3 paints? That 2x shoots very well - I've used dozens of cans on the interior of my travel trailer during the restore. And thanks for the tip on the orange peel. I've got at least 2 of those to do.

Thanks. Bought a badge off EBay - close but side holes not top & bottom. Was going to try to fake it with 2 sided tape...

    (MBBO #5 Class 1) 1968? Columbia Playbike

Thanks! Looks like its a Model 120. It had a knobby blackwall on it when I bought it but I don't think that was the original brand. The front may have been original as it was a roached USA tire. I wanted to use the white walls cuz I thought it would look nice with the purple and match the...

    (MBBO #5 Class 1) 1968? Columbia Playbike

Good info thanks! Wow its R182244 looking like it says 1966? Its actually really purple. Photos seem to color it blue. I'm using parts that I have "in stock" for items that were missing so I'm trying to get close. I definitely do not have one of those curved sissy bars. But I have a seat /...

Cleaned the frame best I could. Cleaned and re-greased the crank and head set. Sticky....

Stripped the silver paint off and the chrome is trashed. (silver paint on spokes and hub too - real hack job) Trying to keep the costs down so I think I may swap in a "similar" wheel for now.

    (MBBO #5 Class 1) 1968? Columbia Playbike

The beginning. Not going for perfect - going to save what I can including the paint. Needs a re-chromed front rim as some "artist" sprayed the whole thing silver. Wrong handlebars and needs a headbadge, sissy bar, and seat. There is not a ton of info out there on what was original for this so...

    Re-chroming Bike Wheels

Thanks. I ended up going to West Coast Chrome in Modesto (Central Valley). 3 times cheaper. They did as I asked and didn't loose the knurling or stamping on my S-5s but there was a touch of spotting (pitting?) near those areas. The sissy bar came out really nice. $60 per rim and $40 for the...

    Re-chroming Bike Wheels

Rims (near) perfect for $150 and get a few extra parts in the balance. No green sparkle seat though.... Oh well.

    Re-chroming Bike Wheels

I guess things are expensive all over. My solution was to hit Craig's and buy a Stardust with perfect

    Re-chroming Bike Wheels

Hello. (my 1st post) I just took a set of S-5 hoops to a chromer in San Jose and he quoted $360 for the set! He could not guarantee that the S-5 stamping would remain. Welcome to Bay Area pricing...
