Post War Fiets Cross, Velo Cross, Gravel Pit/Bomb Crater Cross Tribute.

Went to town for shopping today. The stores have many mosquitos. The check out people have bug swatting zappers.

Everyone agrees, this is the worse year anyone, including me at 77 years, can remember for mosquitos. Summer residents have left, people aren’t mowing lawns and I’m not getting any projects or chores done. It gets worse every day. Repel for cloths and bug dope don’t do it, they still bite. I go...

    Thompson Classic BO18 Challenge

Krp, finished! I protest, they must have assistants. Can you send them my way? I need someone to dig through my junk, find the parts I need, determine what I don’t have and panhandle at the nearest round about for funds for the missing parts.

    Thompson Classic BO18 Challenge

That’s a great motivator, and generous. Unfortunately I haven’t even inventoried my parts yet. Turtle build I guess. How about a reward for last to finish? Ha, ha.

It’s done, except for the head badge. Today I also put passenger foot rests on my motorcycle. Next, I have to finish painting and assembling my Claud Butler track bike and build wheels for my 50s Columbia. Then I can work on the build off bike.

It’s 47 degrees and the bug blizzard is, I hope, peaking. It’s not as buggy as usual so maybe I’m being optimistic. Anyway, about 10 more days and the bugs will diminish and perhaps then I can collect all my parts, and see what I still need. I went into town this past weekend, stayed at my...

    Trojan Horse

Here is a tank I made last year. I took fast drying drywall mud and pored it into a homemade wood box. I used cooking spray for mold release. I made a drywall mud plug for the internal and squeezed carbon fiber/epoxy in between. Three layers. I used a Columbia winged tank I had to make the...

How do you find the time?

You must be young. I used to do the same when I was young, 11th hour, work hard like a mad man just enough to get minimum done, get distracted, go do something else and repeat the next time I felt like it. Now I work slow but all day on a project. It’s amazing how much more I get done now with...

How do you find the time?

Good for you to join in with your situation. I would guess most participants are retired. Old guys that have time, work on bikes, go for coffee for an hour each morning and hang out at the hardware store.

    Tips n Trix

Almost all the paint came off in the phosphoric acid dip. I used a torch to burn the small amount remaining and it’s back in the phosphoric acid to see if that helps.

The weather is now good for bike building, but. Today we went for a hike along Lake Michigan. I coughed up bugs all the way home. The bugs will be unbearable for two weeks and then they will just be bad. Poor dog.

    Tips n Trix

I bought a gallon of ph down at the thrift store for $30. The label said it was phosphoric acid. It’s $45 a gallon new. Phosphoric acid removes rust and changes it to iron phosphate. I diluted it enough to cover a frame, probably 10-15 to 1 with water. It removed the frame paint and bleached my...

New Departure Servicing/rebuild advice? (Also what model do I have?)

Take the discs out in a unit, put a zip tie through them so the order stays the same and put everything in solvent. You really don’t need a tutorial, it’s that easy.

    MW tire sizes

Schwinn middle weight bikes with fenders usually can take 2.125 non knobby tires. With the conversion you’re going to try you will find that the Schwinn fender arch won’t match the new wheels/tires. You can play with chain length, gearing, rear fender position adjustment and a minimum of fender...

    Jude's finds

I didn’t want it anymore but still, I’m concerned that there is a bike thief in the area. Almost as low as a ... offender.

    Jude's finds

I had the twin to this bike, except it had no rust. It was my Mothers from the 1950s. Last summer someone stole it.

    Jude's finds

Here is my Raleigh built Hercules. Same bike as above, different head badge. Phillips also made a camelback. Hercules also made a pre Raleigh take over camel back that was much better built and better looking than the Raleigh version.
