What have you been riding lately?

Built this ‘62 Typhoon this week and took it for a quick shakedown ride when the rain stopped. Mostly good but the rebuilt 2 speed red band has way too much drag for my liking. I’m thinking of replacing it with a new SA 2 speed kickback like I have on my Colson or a 1 x 7 speed derailleur setup.

    💸Captain Awesomes Fresh Finds/General Ramblings

Enjoy. They are a wicked little truck. A mate of mine has imported a few into Australia.

    Freeliner

I made some changes this week to the Freeliner including a late model forged razor stem I had blasted and then painted matt black, a chrome plated Electra bar, layback post, Dia-compe levers and front cantilever brakes. The Dia-compe gear came off a really clean parts bike. The layback post and...

Cool. I regret not buying that 1/2” pitch chainwheel a while back!

    Robins Nest

50-54 CWC was still using skiptooth chains with 1” spacing. I believe they began using a standard 1/2” chain later that decade. I have only ever seen one CWC built bike with a twisted heart chainwheel for a 1/2” chain and I’m sure it was a lady’s model Ward’s Hawthorne built either in the late...

    Robins Nest

@MattiThundrrr Hi Matti. The twisted heart chainwheels were made for a 1/2” chain too. I believe they were used on late 50’s to early 60’s Hawthorne and Western Flyer branded bikes made by CWC. I have seen a couple on ebay.

    ‘62 Typhoon double straight bar

Thanks Matti There seems to be more red ones about. The other problem is trying to find a seller willing to pull a bike down and then taking the time to pack it well. I always believed these were a one year only frame but discovered elsewhere it was also offered the year before as a Tornado...

    ‘62 Typhoon double straight bar

After years of searching I finally found a black ‘62 Typhoon. I should have it in a few weeks and have everything set aside that I need to build it into a sweet bmx cruiser. I will be keeping the original paint and I got most of the bike with the exception of the wheels, tires and pedals. I...
