    TRADITIONAL All American Varsity

Yes, After Schwinn phased out the main Chicago factory during 1983 some of the ef equipment was sent to Kentucky to be used to make some ef models. This lasted for about 1 to 2 years. They are different if you look close. No more flat blade forks. The bottom bracket isn't all ef joinery...

    TRADITIONAL All American Varsity

Doh, more b$$$rd children, both with flat bar conversions. Murray built Schwinn Varsity. 1984. FFS, Positron. Tubular fork won't take wide tires. And a 1986 Giant built Schwinn Varsity with FFS, Positron, lugged frame. Tubular fork. Catch and release.

Bad Mechanics Files or How Not To

I had a thread going on the sbf (before it got hacked) on some really bad bike repairs. A new find. It almost worked. The guy said the pedal kept locking up as the outer nut would turn in while pedaling. A lock nut might have solved that problem. Cool is the guy used 2 hub cones pointed...

    THE RICKPAULOS COLLECTION

I think the fork is bent

I have one of these fork tools. Made in Monticello Iowa about 40 miles from here by the Little Brute Company. Made using an old style automotive bumper jack. A more accurate description is a fork bender. It won't undo bent steel, it just bends it again. It will bend the weak point, not unbend...

And the rest of this weeks intake. Schwinn Frontier. Stuck seat post with a trail-a-bike bracket on there. Front bearings very loose. Must have been a pretty wild ride with a kid on the back and the wobbly front end. Schwinn Le Tour (japan build). Schwinn OR2 Schwinn Searcher...

    THE RICKPAULOS COLLECTION

Yikes, 21 bikes yesterday. In alpha order. This is June, the traditional wedding month so that might explain the many his/hers pairs. All Pro (Kmart brand name) 10-speed. 26" wheels. As bad as many cheap Chinese imports are, this is just as bad as any of them. Real slugs to ride. Only...

What have you been riding lately?

About 30 miles loop including a dead end trail (new construction). late 1980s Diamond Back Axis. Classic early vintage mountain bike. But too short of a frame and a way too long top tube and stem. First and last ride before it goes on the block. I might have doubled it's lifetime miles today.

I know its a STEYR, but thats about it!!

Sears did have Steyr build a lot of bikes but the Sears sold bikes usually had the Sears' names on them. Free Spirit, Ted Williams, JC Higgins, Sears or FS Elite. This photo is of a Sears JC Higgins branded ladies Styer built 3 speed but it has all straight frame tubes which was very common for...

    Tires for commuter

There are a lot of semi slicks that work great for street use. If there is a lot glass or other debris in the area, a belted tire can help reduce flats. I have Kenda Komfort tires and they work well for all around riding. Enough rubber to prevent most flats. Only ever had 2 flats on them in...
