How did you come up with your AVATAR ? And Screen Name ?

Decided to post here since there is a new avatar i use. The nickname comes from a misspelled stranger that i liked a lot because there is a ⭐star in it! So here i am, shining bright :D The new avatar is actually a logo of my new brand I've created to represent my bicycle design activities. I...

    29'er Electra build.

Well, I was busy with other things, so it is clear I am not painting the bike until the build off deadline. But I believe I will be able to finish it. Even though I didn't build the fork yet, I've made something to help me along the process. Here is a nice piece of a 50mm wide 6mm thick steel...

    Internally geared hubs

Yes, all Sachs and most SRAM kickback hubs take these standard sprockets, same as Shimano Nexus does. If you want i can make a custom skiptooth sprocket like that for you, but that won't be easy. The skiptooth cog is thicker then the regular one, so it would have to be thinner inside and thicker...

    Is this the right part?

The chain on the picture looks like it is for SACHS hub for me, i think SA has bigger thread on it. But honestly, i never had luck guessing with them, i usually just get a few and try which one fits. There are at least three different threads and two different rod diameters existing.

    Internally geared hubs

I use lithium blue grease and simple vaseline oil in most cases. However for specific applications i have a whole set of different ones. For example Nexus hubs take thinner white lithium grease and thicker transmission oil. Sometimes for the coaster brakes i use hi-temp Shimano Roller brake...

    Internally geared hubs

It depends on the model and design really. Older hubs tend to run on oil, many later models use grease, some use combination of both. I personally most of the time grease the big shell bearings and apply oil on planetary mechanism.

10 days to go. Are you freaking out? I'm not freaking out.

I am freaking out a little. I have still to fabricate a fork, assemble the bike and also to try to paint it, and it is cold outside, so the paint drying time is extended. I could have finished the bike in one or two whole days working, but i have a few bikes for clients waiting to be finished...

    Internally geared hubs

Could be a good idea, unless your hub shell has wear on the bearing balls contact area. In that case that would help a bit, but the effect would be temporary. And this is quite possibly the case. Best is to inspect it and see for yourself. If the shell is fine, then replacing the guts is totally...

    Wow! Nice collection!

    1" to 1 1/8" threaded fork adapter?

There are basically two ways to go. First is a special adapter headset, there are many from different manufacturers available, for example Neco H834. The other way is a reduction sleeve, typically made of aluminium, that you press to your 1-1/8 tube and it makes it 1" headset ready. Each way has...

    Internally geared hubs

Slightly different model with a smaller cooling rotor, but essentially the same. BR stands for Brake Roller, on the end they have either R or F for rear and front accordingly. Any Shimano product that starts with BR and ends with R would fit you. I can advise you on the models and differences if...

    Internally geared hubs

Feel free to write me if you need anything listed above, we have all of that easily available in Europe. Multiple models of roller brakes, all parts for SA and Nexus hubs, anything you desire. Shipping won't cost too much either.

    29'er Electra build.

So, happy New Year everyone! I had a great time cruising with our custom bike club on the last day of 2022 and then swimming in the cold sea on the first day of 2023. Now it is time to get back to work, the time is running! Started with cleaning up the paint off the seat stays. Looks good in...

    Internally geared hubs

S2C is pretty much what Sachs Duomatic was. We have a few of them in Europe. If you want one - i have a couple lying around, but they are not cheap unfortunately. But they ride like a dream. My ex girlfriend has one on her Schwinn Corvette and she claims it to be the best riding bike of the...

    29'er Electra build.

Didn't manage to work on a bike today, but got to the hardware store for some supplies. Grinding stuff for more better paint cleaning and a slightly bigger then my tubing hole saw to make a nice notch on the mid tube. Also some red oxide primer, turquoise paint and mate finish transparent...

    29'er Electra build.

Another thing - i have a new name for that build, better then boring 29'er Electra build. It is from now on called El Niñer. I think the meaning behind is pretty obvious so I won't explain it unless someone asks me to :D

    29'er Electra build.

Thank you for advice, i will experiment with that in future. I do have a variable amperage setup, however i have not played with it a lot. At some point i was practicing a lot of pulse welding, but then i have decided to go back to mostly working on fixed power to improve this aspect of the...

    29'er Electra build.

Started the day with spot-welding all the tubes together. Then I've straightened the thing and welded around the top tube/head and the frame bottom. For the seat tube/bottom and top tube/seat tube connection i've decided to use TIG welding process and that was a mistake. Soon i show you why...
