The best paint job I ever did actually looked pretty good if you stood back a ways, squinted, and caught it in the right light.

Fortunately, I only had to knock down the warty bumps and respray it. When I bought this frame it had a super hard paint job. I ended up removing it with a torch and wire brush followed by sanding with a quarter sheet electric sander. Paint is hands down, my least favorite part of ratting.

Thanks! I got some primer work done today so tomorrow I'll begin ratrodding with charcoal briquettes. This is uncharted waters for me so chaos is fully expected .

Nitro Rail (w/ Discount Promo Codes)

A Nitro Rail popped up locally for sale today, new in box, asking $300. It won't be coming home with me but it is odd enough to look it up. Why am I not surprised to find a linked thread about these at RRB?

    Double Trouble

I dropped off the frame for powder coating on the south side of Chicago at a shop with the reputation for being the areas best. They work with many of the top builders of rods and motorcycles in the region and were genuinely impressed with uniqueness the frame. I should have it back in a couple...

No, leaving the fork chrome. I'm thinking bright shiny white for the frame color.

    Double Trouble

Way back in early January, rev106 offered up his Champion tribute frames he named 'Double Trouble'. I bought one. I've slowly been accumulating parts to build it and today it begins. I have today off work and will be taking the frame to a powder coater for some color.

The almond is going to be used sparingly to highlight the grooves in the top rear of the chain guard. That section of the bike is visually busy so a little help is needed

I have one part to make and one hole to drill and I'll be ready to move on to the next stage of the build. Paint. A few have suggested leaving it bare nekkid metal but I have an itch that I just gotta scratch. Painting supplies will consist of self etching primer, red oxide primer, almond paint...

I've used a propane torch and scraper to remove paint. Get it just hot enough to discolor the the paint and scrape it off, followed by sanding after it cools.

Thanks and yep, the tank needed to be on there. I didn't really notice or intend it but the shape of the tank and chain guard are almost identical, especially the belly. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good!

Just about there with the Bondo job. The best of the best Kustom builders in the 60s & 70s used Bondo by the gallons to create the wild machines of the day. In the chopper world they called it 'moulding the tank', so I guess I done went and moulded my tank. I spent way more time and energy on...

Mounting them 'nanners reversed would look pretty cool with the noses of the saddles on each side of the rear tire.

If you're still gunning for the barn find look, the brick red would be my pick. Orange could be kind of hard to dull up to get the effect. I'm going to need to do a study on your drop stand. One of my beaters has a bad habit of randomly toppling over and that may cure it.

On Amazon, if you search for paint shaker, all kinds of strange attachments for power tools pop up. I should just wedge a can into my spokes and go for a quick ride around the neighborhood.
