A quick education on Gravel bikes and where to ride them

The Sparta Trail is one of my bucket trip rides. I'm retiring this afternoon so it will become a reality soon enough. :dance2:

A quick education on Gravel bikes and where to ride them

I got my mine as a deeply discounted 2 year carry over at the LBS. If I could keep only one of my bikes, there would be no question about keeping this one.

A quick education on Gravel bikes and where to ride them

If you can ride a 58cm frame I'll loan you my Warbird for a weekend so you can try a factory job and draw your own conclusions.

A quick education on Gravel bikes and where to ride them

There are a few rail to trails and the I&M pathway a short drive from here. Miles and miles of sweet bicycling solitude. The Wauponsee Trail that terminates in Custer Park is a nice ride. The Kankakee river path between the State park and Davis Creek is another nice gravel bike ride. You need a...

    Shifter swap help

I'm going to be using a Nexus hub with a vintage Shimano twist shifter soon. My understanding from Google searching is they will work, the only caveat being the cable will be slightly slack in 1st gear. I'm going to use vintage motorcycle grips which measure 7/8" and 1"; the 1" to fit over the...

    Hurricane Ian

I'm glad you are safe and only had minimal damage.

    My '69 Typhoon

There are bars that will work with the stem you have. They will be crimped flat on the ends of the crossbar so as to pass through the stem. Usually the stems bolt will need to be removed to provide clearance while pushing them through.

I'll bet there aren't any bikes associated with exploding penguins

If somebody ratrodded a confirmed Wright Brothers bicycle, the internet fireworks would be spectacular.

The next build off? Plans for the future

I'm finally going to retire from work on Friday and begin another build off on Saturday. It is in the cards. It is on. :rockout:

1952 Monark Super Cruiser parts bike

Today I gutted the old girl like an opening day trout. For what I paid, it is a wealth of parts. The bend in the springer is pretty much as I expected it to be. It should be an easy fix on the press. I'll set it up on V blocks and go easy with it. The outer section is arrow straight so I...

    Western Flyer

This jogged my memory from a book I read long ago. TI was the company that bought out the British bicycle industry. AMF set itself up as the North American importer and distributer. AMF would bring in partially built bikes to beat tariffs and assemble them in the USA, hence the AMF decals that...

1952 Monark Super Cruiser parts bike

I don't know the answer for that. From what I've seen the single spring was used on both genders frames and are also pretty uncommon.

    Western Flyer

You've probably seen many of them. They are hands down the most re-branded of all British bicycles. Good bikes. Not up to Raleigh level of fit and finish but still very nice up to the mid 1960's when quality dropped off.

Most likely Phillips. When AMF started buying up the British bicycle industry, many smaller brands were amalgamated under the Phillips brand. The chainring is the big clue, very much Phillips.

1952 Monark Super Cruiser parts bike

I'm going to remove the fork tomorrow and give it the eyeball. Usually, from what I've seen, the Monark springers bend in the center of the tube. If so, it should be easy to straighten on the shop press.

    Jude skinny tire bike build

The red Traveler. It set you back a fin so it's got to be good.

At this pinpoint moment in time, I'm probably gonna build my 1933 Columbia in the skinny tire class. I need to collect the accumulated parts together and see what I've got to work with. But...... my build ideas are always subject to abrupt change.

The wheels are a big bonus. I'm going to be building a Nexus 3 speed coaster setup for the Firestone and these look like they will clean up nice. I think they are Lobdell.
