Electra Straight 8 build and Ebike conversion

Cool project! I'm with you on messy wiring, gets my dander up (unless it's a full on rat, then messy wiring makes the build even better). Helpful hint here for uploading photos: when inserting them click on "Full image". I think you can edit your posts to do it after the fact.

1952 Monark Super Cruiser parts bike

After the build off the hard work isn't done, no sirree Bob. All of them primo ratty parts that I used left gaps in my parts stash and now the chore becomes building the stash back up. This hasn't been a good year for finding good parts mules so when this one popped up for sale I jumped on it...

    New Leaf Here

Well, if I have to share this county with another ratter, it's good to share it with one that has it all together.

The next build off? Plans for the future

That would be cool. You-Tube needs more rat bike content so heck yeah.

The next build off? Plans for the future

I've got a frame with track dropouts you can have for free. It's from the parts donor for my build.

The next build off? Plans for the future

Completed bikes are totally cool to enter so long as you blow them apart and modify the snots out of them

The next build off? Plans for the future

My frame has been selected. I'll check the bin this weekend to see what I have and what I think I may need. It should be a fairly low key build without too many mock ups. I'm going to be finishing the bike already on my stand and revisiting a couple of my older builds to try keep my build...

Removing a broken, frozen, aluminum stem from a steer tube with drain cleaner

The paint wasn't harmed at all.

Removing a broken, frozen, aluminum stem from a steer tube with drain cleaner

I don't have a torch set at home anymore, I sold off my welding gear when I stopped racing. I was going to thin it out with reamers but decided to look for a method that anyone with limited access to tools could reliably use. And there was no rush on my part to get it done. Hopefully this method...

Removing a broken, frozen, aluminum stem from a steer tube with drain cleaner

Oops, good catch. I'm not conversant in a lot of (most) chemicals and got some bum information from the internet on the acid/base part of the drain cleaner.

Removing a broken, frozen, aluminum stem from a steer tube with drain cleaner

92 hours Today the experiment ends. The couple of remaining slivers and wedge fell out with a couple of gentle taps on the driveway. My verdict is I would definitely do this again if needed in the future. It saved the part and saved me money. Anyone tempted to try this should fully understand...

Removing a broken, frozen, aluminum stem from a steer tube with drain cleaner

There is no doubt that it would be easy to remove at this point. I'm going to keep going with it just to have an idea of how many hours it takes to completely dissolve.

Removing a broken, frozen, aluminum stem from a steer tube with drain cleaner

67 hours The stem is starting to lift from the steer tube in places and almost completely dissolved from top to bottom in a couple of spots. It is getting difficult to take photos as it recedes deeper. I would expect to find it completely out tomorrow morning.

Show me your scribbled plans for a build and I'll show you mine

I remember when you were floating this concept and thought it was such a cool, cool, idea. This is a bike that needs to happen.

This is a scribble I did of my plans for Mudd, the bike I built in RRBO15

    Ne'er-do-well *Deluxe*

I should have crushed some Wheaties into the grease when I packed the hub 💪

    Ne'er-do-well *Deluxe*

I broke my bike. There is a freshly seal coated parking lot near my house and I just had to try laying down a skid mark on it. When I stomped down to skid it became clear the old Musselman hub was going to have none of that. Now I hear a click every revolution the wheel turns. I'll be taking it...
