    Ne'er-do-well *Deluxe*

I used a 1" throw away paint brush that I'd lightly load with the powder and swipe it onto the primer. Then using my fingers and/or a slightly damp paper towel, smear and wipe it around. It is messy so doing it over gravel or the lawn is recommended (or in my case, take it to work and wash the...

    StratoFlite (Spaceliner style)

I'm a truck mechanic by trade and if you want to hear the full width and breadth of my cussing talents, bring sketchy wiring into my shop. The one exception is rat rod wiring where the sketchier, the better. Outstanding work on your Goldberg wiring!

    Felt Jasmine

I seriously don't have room for any more complete bikes but parts mules are almost always welcome. So whilst perusing the local ads I came across this little honey. The sellers photo showed it hanging upside down from the rafters, covered in cobwebs and dust like Grampa Munster. I mentally...

    Ne'er-do-well *Deluxe*

I finally was able to get back with it, my job and the weather have been joy mutilators. My painting experiment is going well. Initially the plan was to hose it down with primer and give it a smearing with crushed Kingsford briquettes and that plan crashed and burned spectacularly. A quick...

Yep. My build is structurally all decided, now it's all about final appearance. I have a paint experiment in the works that is showing potential. Probably will get some pictures up late tonight.

Myself, I like it in white. It creates a nice contrast. The powder coating on mine set me back $90 but I feel it was well worth it because this bike will stay in my fleet long term.

    Double Trouble

Thanks! I didn't have a white bike in my fleet and being a tribute frame I didn't feel bound to building it to the original Champion spec. And Nazareth wrote a song about it,

    Mid-Life Crisis

You and are about the same height & weight and I have solid seat posts on a few of my bikes including an Atom on my '37 Schwinn. Solid stainless bar stock can be bought for about the same price as a better grade hollow post and polishes up real nice. Stainless is less likely to seize in the bore...

    Double Trouble

Getting back on with it! I have everything to complete this build with one exception. I ordered a set of black Rhynolite rims which I was assured were in stock only to find out later that they are back ordered through late August. Grrrrrrrrrrr....... I do have a new set of polished MSW...

    Ne'er-do-well *Deluxe*

July has been the month of the endless buzzkill. My retirement got delayed, my job has been pure evil, covid came to my home (not me), heat, humidity, rain, sick dog, on & on. I just lost my driving wheel for bike building. Poor old Ne-Do-Well Deluxe found itself in the murky depths of page 2...

A yellow bicycle with words on it

There was also a step through bike in the promotion and it is a dead ringer for a Nirve. I did find a frame at an EU custom cruiser site that is almost exactly like this except it fits a a 26 x 2.30 tire which wouldn't fit my frame. The promotion was in 2017 so they may have widened the stays...

    Ape History Talk?

Apes have been around a long time. My 1927 Edwards & Crist has them and they were an accessory item in the E&C catalog. The catalog calls them California bars.

A yellow bicycle with words on it

Factory or custom shop built it. I did a little Google searching and saw 500 of these were made.

A yellow bicycle with words on it

This afternoon I decided to check the local online market place and a yellow bike with words on it came up for sale an hour earlier. I am over biked but it was cheap, as in real cheap. I'm a skinflint. Cheap and skinflint are like a magnet and steel; the attraction is strong. So I bought it...

    Just Curious.....

I put the frames I will eventually build into large tote bins and over time add parts I come across to the bin that will probably be used in the build. My most likely build off bike for next year is in such a condition now. It's also a great way to lose and forget about parts so I get surprises...

    Double Trouble

Got the frame back from the powder coating and started piecing it together. I used a Tioga Beartrap 2 headset and the fork fit like it had been made for the frame with no cutting required. The crank is a Free Agent chromoly 175mm, chainwheel is a Chop Saw 42t snowflake, bottom bracket is a YST...

    Ne'er-do-well *Deluxe*

I thought about doing that but I'm trying to avoid overkill on this build. No, a new batch of painting supplies and a search for parts making materials that don't snap in half.

    Ne'er-do-well *Deluxe*

The charcoal exercise was an exercise in futility. Firstly, in 24 hours the primer dried harder than any paint I've ever squirted out of a can. Secondly, the color was much brighter than the cap showed. The charcoal wouldn't adhere to it at all, but you should have seen the patina on my hands...
