Shim to fit 7/8" dia bars to 1" stem.

I wanted to try some old BMX bars on my Cannondale but the stem needed a 1" dia bar. Using donor cheapo mallwart mtn bike bars, I cut out the clamp area, then cut in half to make shims. Works great!

    The back .40 !

I've been a "shade tree" mechanic my whole life. Sometimes working outdoors can be very therapeutic. :giggle: That said, I would not want my tools out in the weather. @Captain Awesome 's suggestion of a portable shelter might work out for you till the snow flies. I had one of those pop up...

    The Great (Haro) Escape

It's on a long downhill 45 to 25 mph ends with a ROUGH railroad crossing and sharp right turn at the bottom. Maybe all the vehicles hitting brakes at the same spot? Wierd how it affects some bike/tire combos more than others...

    The Great (Haro) Escape

Did a little more tweeking of rear wheel spokes and took a 6 mi ride. Rides very well. Shifts great, no rattles or wierd noises! A couple good hills on the loop was able to take them in 3rd pretty easy. The vibration only shows itself on the same stretch of blacktop - so it is the road.

    The Great (Haro) Escape

@Karate Chicken Industries , @OddJob , Maybe some of the blame may be to quality, air pressure in the tires. My mass usually insures I ride as much psi as recomended on tire sidewall. :) If push comes to shove I have some creme Schwalbe tires with higher psi. Our roads get lots of truck and...

Ha ha, Looking back at pics when I bought the bike, these grips were on it! Somehow they got separated in my "system", lol.

    The Great (Haro) Escape

Got a short test ride in yesterday. Found some spiffy used grips that cleaned up nice. They are soft silicone and had quite a bit of dirt imbedded in the basket weeve pattern. I swapped out the Avid levers for full size models that came from the stash. I don't know much about 'em tho. They...

    The Great (Haro) Escape

Thanks everyone for your advice. Aiming to get 'er out for a test hop today. Sorry to get so "hung up" on math here. I just wanted to show comparisons to two of my favorite bikes. I chose the 48t chainring because the Specialized rides so well for me. Questions of frame and cockpit fit and...

schwinn approved generator, what am I missing?

Oh ya, another fun fact about these generators that I remember from back in the day is, when you stop moving the light stops too! Fun on country roads at stop signs! @ingola , Would be cool to integrate a rechargable battery into a LED conversion so light would continue when stopped.

@hamqqea, I calculated the gear inches using https://sheldonbrown.com/gear-calc.html Gear chart using Gear Inches For 26 X 2.125 / 54-559 / MTB tire with 48t chainring and 170 mm crank. With Shimano 11-12-14-16-18-21-24-28 8-speed "R/ah" Cassette. I have been using the above calculator for a...

    The Great (Haro) Escape

    To compare Haro v2 gearing to two of my favorite riders: Calculated the gear inches using 48 t oval front sprocket 1st gear 28 t = 45 gear inches 2nd gear 24 t = 52 gear inches 3rd gear 21 t = 59 gear inches 4th gear 18 t = 69 gear inches 5th gear 16 t = 78 gear inches 6th gear 14 t =...

    The Great (Haro) Escape

Thank you for the comment KC. My short test hop only got the first 3 speeds engaged, they worked fine. To clarify does the chainline look OK to you? I suppose the best test would be putting some miles on it. Definately the forces seem to tend to keep the chain out of area between the big cog /...

Advice sought on preserving aluminum finish...

Actually that is just how my Haro frame looked. Blotches of dull and shiny coated aluminum. I was getting nervous fooling around with cleaners and solvents just made it look worse! I had a bottle of ICE wax in stock and gave it a try and it made the aluminum frame look nice and shiny again.

    The Great (Haro) Escape

Thanks Thanks Thanks for the complements guys! Just wanted to show the 3 shim washers in use offseting the crank outboard. Chainline is pretty extreme in 1st and 8th but nice in the middle gears. If it turns out I spend most ride time in the lower gears, I could remove 1 shim at the expense of...

Advice sought on preserving aluminum finish...

I have had good results using this wax, https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Wax-T-477R-ICE-Spray/dp/B007KTINWQ/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=turtle+wax+ice+synthetic+polish&qid=1653780594&sr=8-2&tag=forumyield-20 The thing is most waxes turn white when dry, leaving residue. This Ice wax dries clear and...
