Summer Fun: ‘74 Schwinn Speedster Camelback

"Thinking back, wrenching on bikes and riding the neighborhood is what we did as kids in the 70’s since we didn’t have the internet and video games to distract us! " What a brilliant statement, @radnadnev That is my memory as well. And there wasn't anything we couldn't fix on my AMF with these...

    The Great (Haro) Escape

Final assembly of crank, took awhile to get quite a bit of super fine gritty mud residue out of the BB. The cartridge I pulled out was full of grit also and sloppy! Test fit another set of pedals. Nervous all the pedals I try seem to fit loose to the cranks. Ugg. Do I have to use locktite...

    "What's in a name, anyway?"

Using the existing bike name as a start, My inspiration for the name, "The Great (Haro) Escape." Is inspired by the amazing Steve McQueen and his motorcycle jump stunt to escape from a WW2 POW camp. For some reason I watched this movie many times as a kid and that got it burned into the 'ole...

    Bike valuation for insurance company?

And that is why we have a "farm policy". Regular insurance co. don't want to mess with horses.

    Heavy Duty Schwinn

Bought a China Huffy from Mallwart couple years ago. Hub was copy of Shimano design and it kept buzzing when coasting, even after I pulled it apart and lubed it. Consensus was beat it a little - hard application of the brake would speed parts getting warn down and bedded in. It worked.

What have I acquired here?!! (Oversized OPC)

I got the my Redline crank from a scrapped bike, so it came complete with chainring bearings and cups. The cups are std OPC size outside, but bearings are oversize dia so the bearings are not standard, and ditto for the cups. I gather that you can find the cranks and can bore a std sprocket to...

show off your garage / shed / shop

Still a work in progress but this is my garage shop. Put some good old school Technics speakers up by the ceiling. Huge angle brackets were part of a scrapped store potato chip rack ! Receiver hooked to old Dell pc rocking Windows7 and AIMP mp3 player.

    Bike valuation for insurance company?

IDK where you live. Sounds like a tough situation. If your bikes are not a business then it's a hobby. I never spend lots on bikes and parts. It's for fun and exercise. Probably have too many but, "at least they don't eat." I would look for maybe a rider on a policy where you can declare the...

    The Great (Haro) Escape

I gave her a wash with dish soap, but I can scrub it again as I missed some spots around wheels, ect. Maybe the wax will add some shine. I have one of those power balls around here somewhere.

    The Great (Haro) Escape

Tried some different bars and stems.... Serviced the headset and I realized the jaunty angle of the seat is caused by the seat post being backwards.... Now fixed.... Any good ideas to put some shine into the frame? I assume it is anodized and it seems like a pretty delicate finish.
