Proud Mary - A throwback Huffman ratrod bike

I am still a ways away from that point, anyway. I have a stash of rare earth magnets, so I may just augment mounting using those, at first. Heck, I haven't even measured the arms to verify what size pins that I need to order yet. Am guessing they're 9.5mm, but we'll see this weekend.

    Silver King Unchained: BELT DRIVE....What a ride~!

That is a different Gates belt pulley than I've ever seen before. I dig the look of the bike with the brown hoops. Hope you keep a bit of the patina intact.

If they feel too flimsy, I should be able to drill and tap the arms for machne screws, but I'm not going to go there unless it's absolutely necessary.

I think those bars very well may have been from the Kingfish stash. If my calibrated eyeballs are correct, once the headset is in place, there should be about an inch of trail with the springer flipped, and moving some weight forward of the steering axis will help increase stability at speed...

I wish! Even if the fenders don't make the final cut, I think this headlight is staying. Which also means that I think my colorway has been determined. A tobacco or chocolate brown should complement the orange well.

    "What's in a name, anyway?"

My build is Proud Mary because, well it needed a name. I always liked the basis for that song, and with the upgrade to 27.5x2.35 tires, I thought "Big wheels, keep on turning..." was appropo. (edit) Also, that song is about finding a place that you fit in, among a bunch of degenerates and...

    Ne'er-do-well *Deluxe*

This is feeling a little like deja Vu, but in the best way possible. Huffman frame, off brand Springer, and deep fenders... LOVE IT!

That headlamp is actually an old bakelite reading lamp from the '30s. When I got it at a swap meet, it had a big spring-loaded clamp to attach it to the headboard, and a pull-chain switch.

Yeah, my builds have gone more and more over the top as time has gone on, and I am trying to turn that knob down a few notches this year. We do love our geegaws in these build-offs, though. I have been building bikes for lots of years now, and I have amassed a fair collection. We'll see how...

Honestly, there were no plans to put fenders on Mary. Every vision that I had of her finished form proudly displayed her fat Electra squishy bits, nekkid to the world. After realizing that my repro Columbia springer is 22.2mm ID and not 21.1, and my planned stem wouldn't work without a shim, I...

For the record, I just want to declare that I generally despise using cottered cranks. I had a few sets as a kid, and they always ended up loose and wobbly, and as many issues as square taper cranksets have, I find them the far superior option. Now that's out of the way, I should also inform you...

I totally forgot that work gave us this Friday off, paid. I guess I'll start in on this thing a day earlier than expected.

    Shiny Sierra 82-17

In my experience, Holy Rollers like to pick up glass, thorns and other pokey bits. I think it has something to do with their "negative" tread pattern.

    Basket-Case πŸ›’

The trick to getting a reverse trike like that to lean into the turns is to angle the headtube/steering pivot slightly FORWARD at the top. If you can come up with a bolt-on solution to make that happen, you could even keep it in class 1.

My plan is to work on doing crankset mods this weekend, and maybe beginning to clean up/mold the frame while I figure out a paint job.

I located NOS D-series replacement internals for mine, so I can do at least one full rebuild if it ever needs it.
