This bike kicked my butt down the stretch. I probably should have mocked it up earlier, but I didn’t, and I paid for it limping across the finish line. The original crank didn’t fit, I needed to order a seat post shim, my chain tool broke just this morning ( which is why I’m stuck with a chain...

Not much work happening, but I ordered a few parts. I gave the fork the same treatment as the frame. I’m thinking about the rims now.

Wow!! You’re doing some really nice work here. The rims and chain guard look great!

BTW, and anyone help me to date this frame?

I applied all that paint just to remove most of it. Sanding, steel wool-ing, mineral spirits-ing got me to about what I was imaging. Then, to make the paint look more aged, I followed it all up with amber shellac, which Odd Job turned me on to a few years ago. It’s pretty much where I want it...

My entry for last year’s build ( which I did not finish ) was Sheriff Woody inspired. I was on the hunt for a cowhide pattern saddle, but was unable to locate one. I think Origin 8 made one a while back, but like I said, I couldn’t get my hands on one; it would have made my bike for sure.

I got a bit carried away with the stripper, and now half the frame is down to primer or bare metal. I have to decide whether to strip it all the way down to bare metal and leave it that way or to paint it ( which I don’t want to do ). Another idea is to get creative and paint some of it a couple...

I got everything disassembled down to the frame and began stripping the spray paint. I knew by using a chemical stripper that it wouldn’t be a precise job unless I wanted it ALL off. In some areas, I got the desired outcome ( removing just the spray paint but not the factory coat ), while other...

I'm going with this 24" Western Flyer. I don't like the spray paint job someone did on it, so I'm going to try and remove JUST that and use the original color ( red ). I chose a 24" because I thought a smaller frame would make the B.O.B. look even BIGGER!
