Maybe I should have called it "Exit 9A"

Wow, steam bending in two directions at once is exponentially more difficult. If I can get this lower section bent and glued successfully that will be a good thing to have in my rearview mirror.

I was actually, the piece was extra wide so ripped off the split side and used it.

Sneak peak. Just don't call it the angel of wood because it's going to have it's own unique character.

One more piece of the puzzle glued up.

4043 rods. Yes I was aware of that bike frames were heat treated but when I asked a few welders I knew if they ever did that they looked at me like I was crazy. There is only a mimimal amount of welded aluminum parts in this design. I think at this point my plan will be to secure them in a...

Thanks again. I didn't know the underside would matter. I think the inside of the frame has a protective coating on it. On a side note; Do you think trying to weld 6061 to 7005 would be ill advisable? The head tube I was planning to use is off a bike that's labeled as 7005 and I "think" my...

So the last couple days have been full of set backs and frustrations. When I chose aluminum for this build I knew learning a new skill like welding aluminum would be a challenge but I think I may have grossly underestimated just how hard it would be. I had a few glimmers of success with plates...

Thanks, I had been told about the importance of removing the oxidation, I was wondering if the rods were exempt and I hadn't even thought about replacing my dirty old tig gloves.

Chipping away. Got the "seat tube" glued up and the tapered strips for the down tube milled out.

This is how I feel when I try to comprehend your mastery of metal working.

My first attempt at welding aluminum. Looks just like the picture eh?

Well Thanks but its not my shop. This is my shop. Notice the lack of machinery, just a welder and my poop machine.

Not a ton of visible progress tonight but I did get the form made for the down tube/chain stays.

Here's the dual top "tubes". Pretty happy with how they came out. These only have a slight shape to them, the other frame members are way more challenging. I've eliminated the carbon from this build and replaced it with Wenge. The carbon did stiffen the wood significantly but for some reason...

I'm pushing forward regardless of the time crunch. I got the top tube "in the bag" and I've made about half the bending forms I'll need. I'm steam bending the wood on this crude set up but it's working well.

I did. Nothing that would be worth uploading pictures for but progress is being made.

KRAZY ORANGE DRAGSTER is now DRAGSTER RAT FREAK

I like it but this thing is just crying out to have the BB moved way forward when I look at it. You could even keep the OG sprocket location to curve the chain line around the rear chain stays.

Well, I'm way down but don't count me out yet. I managed to overcome one of my early stumbling blocks and got my aluminium fenders rolled out with a little help form a friend. I broke my harbor Freight roller trying to do this but it was a piece of cake for a real machine. I'm planning to use...

Thanks for checking in, I'm afraid this may be another off year for me. I haven't even had time to think about it, let alone work on it. Its all I want to do but my "Have to do" list is never ending so I never get to work on the "Want to do" list. Its beyond frustrating. Its absolute torture...
