    Schwinn Varsity Party Bike

Schwinn made constant changes. I think they all had the white tape when new. I think the green tape is pretty awesome. It looks like the tape they used a little later. I’m not totally sure on this but I think the 1962 varsity’s had switched to the double down tube shifters instead of the stick...

    Little Willy

I have a pair of those same bars I plan on using on a klunker. They are pretty good looking bars.

    Single & Ready to Mingle

@Couch tater that is what I was going for. I got that piece of cast finned aluminum for about $40 from speedway. I’ve been working on a 1927 model T modified for almost ten years. I wanted a flathead, but at the time I couldn’t afford it. For now the small block ford with some finned parts will...

    Single & Ready to Mingle

Slowly getting a little more work done on the tank plates. I like the contrast, and it ties it in more with the frame. I was planning on polishing the fins, but I think I like the raw aluminum look a little better.

    Single & Ready to Mingle

I don’t disagree with this. Of course it doesn’t need the tank plate, it’s a beautiful frame on its own. None of these bikes need what we do to them. However, that’s the whole purpose of a custom bike, it’s an expression of creativity, taste, and design. This bike is loosely designed by a hot...

    Shoestring (DONE!)

The plate below the tank really fills in the space nicely. The headlight is looking awesome, and is cool with the emblem upside down. If you don’t want to pop rivet the spoon you could drill a couple holes, get some small brass bolts with a slotted head , and then soak them in vinegar and salt...

    Schwinn Varsity Party Bike

I would say yours is still a 1961. They changed from 8 speed to 10 speed mid year, so it’s not in the catalogs. I have a very similar bike to yours, but with the taller frame. My frame was made late 1960, but the fork is mid 1961 and the crank is 1961. All the research I have found says mine...

    Single & Ready to Mingle

I got the tank cut out and mounted. Still needs a fair amount of grinding to get it all working right, but I’m happy with it.it is double sided, I just didn’t take any pictures from the other side. Also realized that the fork is a little bent. I’ve been meaning to make a tool to straighten...

That hurts to have to pay for 4 fat franks for one bike!

    Single & Ready to Mingle

Plans are to make a small tank out of this cast finned aluminum battery cover. I made a pattern that lets me get both sides out of the piece of aluminum. Now the trick is to get it cut out. I think I know someone who has a band saw.

    Silver King Unchained: BELT DRIVE....What a ride~!

I’ve never managed to own one of these aluminum frames, they seem like a pain. Looks like you are making a lot of progress on it.

    Single & Ready to Mingle

Thanks guys, I’m pretty excited about this built. It seems like every year life gets in the way of the main build off. I think the only two build offs I finished a bike for were #4 and #8. Though I have done a few of the muscle bike build offs in recent years. Got started on mocking it up...

    Single & Ready to Mingle

I picked up this single bar schwinn a couple years back and it’s been hanging in my garage since. I always thought these were cool and weird frames. I think they only made them for a few years, if I remember correctly this one is a 1957 flying star. Plans are for a pretty simple build. For...

    1938 elgin oriole, 1941 Cadillac, 1979 spitfire

@Wildcat like other people said the 1/2” pitch chain is original. I have the original rear wheel and it is 1/2”. @RustyGold pointed out all the parts that point towards it being Monark built. It’s definitely not a common version of this bike. Though I did find one other over on the cabe. Here’s...

    1938 elgin oriole, 1941 Cadillac, 1979 spitfire

I haven’t posted any new finds in here for a while. I had these three finds come up all pretty recently. The oriole year is a bit of a guess, but it should be close. This one was a long drive to get but worth it. It’s kind of an odd one because it’s a Monark built version. Most of the parts are...

𝟏𝟗𝟑𝟕 𝐔𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐗𝐋𝐖𝐁 - BO17 Build Journal - Finished in 3rd Place - 1937 Uncle Stretch Colson XLWB

I would say you should keep it here. At one point Uncle Stretch looked into having this frame reproduced. So, it’s an almost production frame. Having owned a couple of his frames I’m really looking forward to your build. I’ll send Uncle Stretch the link to your build too.
